Can Tolerate Adderall but not Caffeine?

About a few years ago, I had a really bad reaction to caffeine--heart palpitations, rapid heartbeat, high blood pressure--over drinking a 20oz of Mountain Dew. I recently started taking Adderall for ADHD (was diagnosed since I was a child but could never swallow medication until early adulthood), and I thought it was really going to mess with my heart. Funny enough, I tolerate Adderall very well with a nominal increase in BP every so often.

But my question is, why does 20oz of soda or a cup of coffee make me jittery with heart issues and Adderall does nothing of the sort? Isn't Adderall like caffeine in terms of being a stimulant, but much stronger?

I'm taking 10mg IR once or twice every few days when needed.

Basically, I think, that for a person without ADHD what you are saying would be correct.  But a person with ADHD has major dopamine problems which the adderall addresses.   The caffeine effects you like it would a normal person (of course, depending on the amount) while the adderall just brings you back to normal (kind of).  Does that make any sense?

I don't put a lot of stuff in my coffee though, so I'm curious why coffee would make me shaky but Adderall wouldn't. I know they work differently, but I just assumed that Adderall was stronger and would have more negative side effects.

Adderall is a stimulant, but of a wholly different sort than the caffeine in coffee.  I would have to check the amount of caffeine in Mountain Dew - but there is a good chance that it has more then a cup or two of coffee.  And, of course, the vast amount of sugar also doesn't help.
