Handwritting

I have 2 kids 8 & 12yrs. Both on adderall xr, both adhd, & both have very bad handwritting. Can this be in any way related to their ADHD? Anyone else have problems with this? My daughter is 8 she has a 100 in reading and a 64 in spelling. Her teacher said is mostley due to simple writing errors. My son 12 can't write a single page and make the lettters all the same size. My kids are both very smart, my son is in advanced math and science programs, & my daughter is an A student. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  I agree that most ADHD kids score way higher verbally than written but as to this being an effect of the meds I just can't see how that would follow.  I've been on Adderall for 10 years and have noticed my ugly handwriting is more organized and pretty when on my meds and my kids' writing was poor long before they had meds and to this day when they stopped taking meds 5 years ago.

my 11 year old has adhd abd his handwritting is horrible also i think sometimes its that they are hurrying or that it could just be a side-effect of the medication they are on. alot of kids with add and adhd have a hard time with written skills compared to verbal skills i hope this helps

Look into gifted and talented, many kids with high IQ appear to have a behaviour disorder.

I mean i am sure that you know they really do have ADHD, but do not overlook this.  One thing for sure is that kids with high IQ are very likely to grow out of behaviour problems as they come to understand themselves, good luck

I have to say that often, not always, but often it is a sign of high intelligence.

Many many people who see the bug picture cannot be bothered with handwriting.

My husband a phd in mathematics and many phd friends have such poor handwriting.  He works with the physics department at the uni. and they SCRAWL  I mean all of them
My son final grade doing very well TG, has the worst handwriting......

  My 12 year old son has large and sloppy writing as well. He also holds his pencil in his fist which I think is part of the trouble. He is my fourth child with ADHD and they all had disliked their hand writing which was full of strange but consistant characters - like no curves or open circles - and seemed incapable of improving it so I would think this is a VERY normal symptom.

Please read up on dysgraphia.  My 10 yr old son still writes like a 5 year old and has difficulty putting thoughts to paper.  Spelling is also very difficult for him.  He can answer the teacher's questions just fine verbally.

I've tried many medications because of many different sideaffects. Spelling and wrighting are pritty hard for me with my medication. What you won't see in this letter, is how many times I have had to backspace because at this very moment my hands are having trouble keeping still, so I think I have pressed the number 5 by accident at least 20 times in this comment to you. Now I'll tell you im no old person, or a parent, I haven't even learned to drive yet, so this is not natural. Most any medication for add will make you jittery, so talk to a doctor for possible solutions. I know I will.
