Is adderrall safe during pregnancy?

I recently got medical insurance and was looking forward to trying to get back on adderal. I was prescribed it as a child but taken off of it by my aunt once she gained custody of me. She is against it but it affected me greatly. I can't focus on anything!!!

As soon as I got the insurance though I found out I am pregnant. I am not far along at all.4 weeks.

I'm just worried that with the recent popularity of this drug that my doctor may see my need for it as a desire for it instead.

But more importantly, is it safe to do so?

     I can completely understand.
The first link is more of a general overall thing - http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/822549_1
The next two have lots of very good articles that will be helpful:
        http://www.additudemag.com/channel/adult-add-adhd/index.html
        http://www.add.org/?page=adda_articles
The next is a book, that has had very good reviews.  I have not had a chance to read it yet.

And finally, my favorite adult ADD site because it is written by a guy with ADD.  Warning, you can get lost in the site because - well, its written by a guy with ADD.  But, it definitely lets you know that you are not the only one out there with the problem.

Hope these help.  If nothing else, it will give you many hours of reading.
Best wishes and please post if you need any more info!

First, congratulations on your pregnancy!  Second, if your doctor thinks that you just desire it, its time to find a new doctor.  All studies have shown that AD/HD is for life.  Not just a thing for kids.
Unfortunately, the standard is to avoid the meds during pregnancy.  This link has pretty good info on why - http://www.help4adhd.org/faq.cfm?fid=33&varLang=en
And, I don't think that they really know one way or the other if it is safe to do so as its pretty hard to do a controlled test on humans.
But just the fact that you know that you do have AD/HD is great.  I don't know how many times I have had adults just going nuts on this forum because they didn't know what was going on.
There is a lot that you can do for yourself till it is safe to get back on the meds.  If you are interested I can point you to several sites that have very good strategies for dealing with ADHD.  Hope this helps.  Best wishes.

Adderall has been shown to cause complications during pregnancy in animal studies.  The FDA calls if a pregnancy Category C Medication.  Which means that it can be prescribed during pregnancy, but healthcare providers are cautioned.

What that really means is that there may be some risk to the baby but it is low.  It has been studied extensively in humans during pregnancy but findings are inconclusive and contradictory.  There are a lot of drugs that are prohibited during pregnancy and others that have been proven safe.  Adderall is a grey area.

My opinion is that it isn't a good idea to start or resume taking Adderall during pregnancy.  If you were currently taking Adderall it would be a different story.  I think that is how a lot of doctors might see it too.  However, you could probably find a doctor to proscribe it.  After giving berth you will have no trouble at all getting a proscription, if you have a diagnosis.
