Statteras **16 yr old son Heart Surgery

My 16 yr old son has been in residental placement for 5 months ( he failed a drug test for pot while on probation for a  so called fight at school) I learned today durin a visit that he has been prescibed Stratteras for add by some sphyce doctor there. was this doctor sopposed to contact me or his mother before giving my son 40 mgs twice a day ???  I must add my son had open heart surgery at 2 years old !!!

1st of all , thanks for your input..... And you are right about spending more time with him,  I did neglect that part cuz I had to work.. That ***** , said.. The 3 on 3 fight was absolutlety no big deal... Was over a girl and noone was hurt and My son touched nobody.. Blah , blah....Thats the way it went down....  Now , Like you said , He was  made the leader of 36 other kids  he must have something going on ,, yep..And he does,, Sorry , I' m just saying , my son has never shown any signs of add , adhd.. And for some qauck to put him on a Tranqulizer to F with his head , after his head has already been f,ed  with over being charged with a 1st degree felony.. I believe there is injustice,, I dont want any money,, I want him to know, he is ok.. geuss you would just have to meet him.... Thanks for posting...

  Hey Nevin,  I understand your anger.  Nothing is harder to deal with then to see something happening to your kid and you are powerless to help.  However,   I think that before you spend the money on a lawsuit, that it would be a good idea to do some research.  For example, strattera's advantage over stimulants for the treatment of ADHD is that it has less abuse potential than stimulants,[2][3]  is not scheduled as a controlled substance and has proven in clinical trials to offer 24-hour coverage of symptoms associated with ADHD in adults and children.[4].  In other words, it has (compared to other meds) one of the least abuse potentials out there.  I agree that they should not have given a minor anything without the parents knowledge - oh wait, you did agree.  You just didn't take the time to find out what it was?
    I also think that a really good way to help your son is to take the time to find out something about ADD.  Kids with ADD/ADHD do tend to self-medicate. And you did say that he failed a drug test for pot.  If there is just the slightest chance that he has ADD, it might explain some of his actions.  If he has ADD, there is a lot of things that can be done for him without medication - doing nothing is much worse.
  In short, I would spend my time on looking at ways to help my son.  If he was made the "leader/Boss" of 36 other kids he has some super qualities.  Whatever possessed him to get into a 3 on 3 fight should hopefully be gone, cause the next time he gets into trouble they throw away the key.  So spend your time on him!  good luck!

And for the Legal system to not lock them up for being where there was A ""Fight"" /(altercation) and charging  them with oh yeah  ** 1st Degree Engaging in organized criminal activity*** No Injuries, 3  boys on each side over a girl.. Yep yep Al Capone stuff.Now my 15 at the time, angel , caring , loving , trying to fit in son , is shipped off to a "" facility"" .. They Make him '' A Leader / Boss"" of 36 other kids who are also on medication for ??????? ... And the  sphyc Doc, Tells him That he is being Impulsive, "" here you go 40 mg's OF Strattera'' no contact with either parent....You know, he is alive, but , he has a frown on his face that was never. Ever there....Will My son Recoop from this medication????  Is his ego not Damaged ????  Parents Please .. Dont waste one second with your child... Someone is out there take it from you...

So what kind of if any  lawyer do I need to obtain to sue the qauck who prescribed Strattera to my  16 yr old  with Congienatel  Heart ( PDA) open Heart surgery , with family history of  addiction, Deppression.. Qoute from Md "" he is not diagnosed with anything ''.. But was told you need to take this so you can "" focus''''.on your work, so you can Graduate and go home faster... OK I have made the call and my son is "" under doctors care and will be winged off of Straterra'' in the next 30 days ... Thats a good thing .. How about , he shouldn't have been told he was ADD !!!!!!!!!! and thinking his head was (&T^*&%)  ed UP.. Cause it wasn't . Do you call that Mental Anguish?? Stupidness?? Fraud?? Malpractice?? should I go on.. Parents , Please Stop this... It  will mess up their ""Brain for the rest of there life"".. All they really need is A HUG!!!!!!

Thanks, so This is a tranquilizing drug.. they said he was being impulsive. So dope him up Huh?? Yes they have his history on file..Dont know if they looked at it.. I am bout to find out though..Thanks for any and all input..How do I explain such ignorance??

This is a tranquilizing drug, not a stimulant. It is not given to people with congental heart problems. Does your son still have heart problems? Make sure the doctors treating him know his history.

My son had heart surgery at 2 yrs old ,(PDA),, should they have really given him Stratterras??? No diagnosis of any disorder.. They are gonna take him off, said he was being ""Impulsive"", and gave him Strattera to ""focus"" .. This son is the respctful, levelheaded, caring, attentive , and politest 16 yr old boy to ever walk this earth..So I geuss when I signed the ""Treatment Plan"" , I was saying it was ok to give my son stratteras..I was thinking a broken arm or diareah.. Parents beware!!!!
