Temazepam...

Hey all...just wondering if any of you guys have had Temazepam while on a stimulant? (I'm on dexamphetamine 50mg over the day)

I haven't been sleeping well for quite some time now (i was awake for over 40 hours a couple weeks back) so my doctor has given me a short course of Temazepam to try and get my sleeping patterns right again. My prescription is 20mg for about 5 days and drop it to 10mg (can't remember how long for :S but i know i only have 25 tablets and no repeats and also know that they should only be taken for about 2 weeks).

So anyway the first night i took them it took me a little bit to nod off but slept well...but last night i took my dose...relaxed in bed and thought i would nod off...but i tossed and turned for a few hours still!

Anyone got experiences they want to share or anything??

Yeah i went to a specialist for my asthma a few years ago and he did a bunch of tests and then sent off a referral so i could do an overnight sleep study...but yeah i never got round to it :S

My local doctors are so crap...I've been there several times about about my tonsils, throat etc but they never do anything more than a blood test or a mouth swab and antibiotics if needed. I do feel as though i need some other sort of tests done on my glands, lymph nodes and tonsils. The nasal sprays I'm on can be taken for up to 6 months...i was using one of the 3 day ones but i knew that wasn't going to do the job in that short time etc...

Yeah i was going to do a post on the meds interaction. I knew about certain sinus meds interacting eg. Psuedoephendrine (Sudafed), I don't know about the laws on psuedo  over there if you have any? (i would assume you do) but here in Australia we have sudafed PE containing - *Phenylephrine* ( in the day time cold and flu tablets) and  *Chlorpheniramine 2mg*....(in the night time ones along with the phenylephrine). After i felt sick/dizzy/light headed/odd heart rhythms and so on, well i spent a good while on the internet researching and yes i found "moderate" interactions....but it made me feel reallyyy horrid :S

It's hard for me to see my progress sometimes...my head just gets really confused and overwhelmed ...i do feel as though i have far to much going on and i know i'm really hard on myself but i feel that i SHOULD be able to do all these things. And it's so frustrating when i don't get these things done!

I feel as though i'm always burning myself out just to keep up with life and not actually getting anywhere...

Seriously, check out the apnea thing.  I have seen enough posts to realize that getting it corrected can make a huge difference (if its a problem).  There is even a lot of good research showing it can heavily contribute to the ADHD symptoms.  And personally, I know that if I don't get a good nights sleep, I tend to be pissed off all next day.  Not sure you will need the full sleep study.  Have a doc look down the throat and see if the tonsils or adenoids are swollen, they tend to be a major cause.
Nasal sprays are much better then tablets cause they don't cause the hyper effect.  but you have to be careful.  Some you can only take for 3 days and then must stop due to rebound effect.  Its not that the tablet interacted with your dex.  It was the type of med in the tablet.  You sound like you've got a sinus infection coming on.  Probably worth checking out.
All in all, think catching up with family and friends is more important then the other choices.  Pull out the old white board and start planning - its one day at a time.
And really, seriously - go see a doc about your sinus problems.  Any general one should be fine.  And probably get the nasal sprays once things have cleared up a bit.  There is a reason you feel like crap - gotta deal with it.
Outside of all that, you sound good.  Much better than what .... 2/3 months ago.
Hang in there.

:P I don't mind you asking at all :) I've been off the epilim for a while now and i can say that was a good choice to get off it...the aggression has dropped alot and i have a bit of my mind back now. I'm at the end of our two week mid year break from class...i set out all these amazing things (well perhaps not amazing lol) i was going to do within these two weeks...like get caught up with my assignments, clean/re-arrange my room in an attempt to have a fresh outlook on things and make the time to catch up with friends/family....all that is QUITE do-able in 2 weeks right?

So....out of those things what did i get done? I caught up with my family and friends. Thats all...I feel so far behind in my school work now that I've done the typical ADHD thing and lost all motivation and it all seems too much. I don't know what to do where to start or how i'm going to get it all done or if i'll pass. Sometimes i wonder if i just don't have the skills or "brains" to do it...then other times i feel like i could conquer the world.

oh and yeah my doctor is back and i went to see him, he's happy with how things are going with me, but i did let him know that i thought it was time that something needed to be done about my sleeping habits (hence the short course of temazepam)

Funny you mention sleep apnea...my mother has it...i was meant to go in for a sleep study a few years ago :\ but because i was working full time, in full blown painkiller addiction etc i never got around to it. My doctor also recommended 2 nasal sprays when i saw him because i have been having alot of sinus pain. I did try a cold and flu tablet which the pharmacist told me it would NOT interact with the dex, but did....wasn't happy about that...

GOD it's taken me a good couple of hours to write this...my attention blows today. I don't know if it's just a coincidence or not but after a few days on temazepam I'm sick. My tonsils do hurt, i'm getting headaches and feel quite crap...

two thoughts.  Dexi's can come in as small as 5mg.  If you are on a time release version - go to a smaller dose and then take the 5mgs around 4 or so and it should be about out of your system by sleep time.  In other words, you can play around with cutting the dose down so it doesn't effect you as much at night, but still does the job during the day.
Other thought is just your mention of tonsils.  Sleep apnea can really cause one not to sleep well.  You might have a doctor check out the tonsils and anything else that might cause sleeping problems.
By the way, did your doc ever come back from vacation?  and how is it going with the epilim?   Are your classes still going well?  (if you don't mind me asking)

Yeah i know about the whole upper and downer thing...i forgot to add that my doctor said i can lower/play around with the dex because i am on quite a high dose. I think my body is still adjusting to everything...I was on opiates for 3-4 years (painkillers..then a year on suboxone, about 209 days off that now), I still have my Xanax at times for anxiety though since i started the dex a few months ago i don't get as anxious so I'm on my last repeat, my doctor tried 2 different mood stabilizers this year (which just made me aggressive among other things) I spent all of last year recovering and this year I've gone into hefty study to be a drug and alcohol counselor AND got diagnosed with adhd so it's been quite stressful...

I slept better last night...though i must of been snoring my head off because my tonsils are really sore!

You are taking an upper and a downer. How about reducing the dose of dexamphetamine? Have you asked your doctor about that?
