Vynanse

my 5 yr old who was born 3 mths premature and was diagnosed with ADHD, Bipolar, OCD at age 3, has now been put on Vynase 30mg. I read on the sever tantrums- they get severe more towards me he will attack me, bite, hit, scratch, call me names- this will last anywhere from 10-30 mins of this meltdown. I do hold him so he will not hurt himself- the oldfashioned basket hold. The meltdowns will come every other day or day to day back to back and can have 1 to 2 meltdowns a day. He had been on Metadate, Respridal, Clonidine, Concerta, Focalin, depakote Daytrana (made him meaner). He has disruptive behavior, all the other meds did not work. Right now he is on the Vyanase, Abilify, and depakote. Does anyone kids act out like this? Also the new med has made him nap off and on all day today. He is now in counseling with a psychotherapists. We did the behavioral clinic thing that is where he was diagnosed with Sever ADHD, and Bipolar I. Can anyone give me some advice or some assistance?

I just can't beleive what I am hearing, 3 year olds and 5 year olds being put on all these meds. No way in this world can you say that a 3 year old, and in most cases any 5 year old, has ADD. No way no how. Part of being diagnosed involved teachers, family members, friend etc. Observation for weeks, visits to the pediatrician, neurologist. My daughter was diagnosed at 7 and I insisted on extensive observation and a visit to the neurologist. Brains waves from an EEG clinched it for me.  It doesn't hurt your child at all. She was only on one medication at a time. Never multi. Stucture and "to do" list are a must. Consistancy is manditory, way more than a normal child needs.  My daugter is 20, she is now on her own and is struggling because she lost the structure when she moved out. She decided not to be medicated. She is paying the price now but has come to me to say she will be back on her meds this week. Hard lesson learned. Good luck, it's a life time but most of our children will learn to cope.

Listen to Cara.  Do not mix all these medicines. Please make sure that he has a clean diet (organic, no preservatives, coloring....), he gets Omega / fish oil supplement, lots of sleep (at least 10 hours per night), lots of exercise outside in the sunshine (at least two hours per day) and a multivitamin.  You should try a simple stimulant like Ritalin or Metadate if you are going to medicate him at all.  Do not give him all these other meds all mixed together.  He is too young.  Listen to Cara, get a second opinion and keep it simple when it comes to the med.

I'm a 31 year old female just recently diagnosed with Adult ADHD.  I've been on Vynanse for only 4 days I can already see a difference in my ability to focus and concentrate on things.  I can't believe I did not go talk to someone sooner in my life.  I've always had a lot of energy and have never been able to sit stilll.  This past weekend I was able to sit and watch an entire movie without getting up!  I don't know about combining it with other meds cause I am only on Vynanse however it has already changed my life.  My only concern with it...is how long will I be taking this?  The rest of my life?  I'm on 50mg 1x day but I hear the max is 70mg a day...what if I max out on dosage and then it stops working?  Has anyone been on this for over a year that can respond?

My sons biological mother was ADHD and bipolar but all the Drs have told me that they cannot tell if my son is bipolar until he is probably a teenager. He is ADHD and ODD (Oppositional Defient Disorder). I think I would have a second opionion. Most Drs will stick together. Ask around, other mothers or just look in the phone book.
I had one physicians assist to want to put my son on some neuro med, but he had to see a Dr. the Dr never mention that med.
My son is 6 now, and it has gotten easier, he don't pitch the taturm as bad as he used to. One thing I have been told and found out it works is to keep them structured. When I would clean my sons room with in a few days he went and dumped out everything, I finally took most to his toys and he liked it better. I think when every thing was disarayed he was too.
Hope this helps, Karen

My son is severe ADHD and was also diagnosed bipolar (he will be 10 in march) The problem with the bipolar diagnosis is that adhd and bipolar disorder share so many of the same symptoms. They had my son on a stimulant for adhd and a mood stablizer(which is what abilify is) and i swear the mood stablizer aggravated his adhd, i took him off the mood stablizier and he seemed to be some what better. I would suggest treating only the ADHD symptoms for now. All these meds they are putting such a small child on could possibly do some kind of severe damage to him, i mean think about these meds mess with brain chemicals! My son sees a pediatric behavioralist, which is a peditrician that deals only with ADHD and behavioral problems! Please take him off the Abilify, and just see how he reacts, you may want to go back and try some of the other stimulants that may not have worked in the past, only because he was taking something else with it!

I just want to know if you've had a second opinion?  I was given Abilify (age 23) and it made me feel insane.  I find it hard to see how a 3 year old child can be diagnosed as all of these "disorders".  Most doctors prefer not to treat ADD/ADHD (atleast in my area) until the age of 6 or 7.  They say all children are ADHD until that age.  I worry that all of these medicines and the child being treated like this so soon could affect him long term.  Heavy, heavy counseling and maybe just ONE medication is what I would choose.  I've been treated for depression with ADHD for a while now, and those meds can really fight with each other!  I would call and schedule an appointment with the best Pediatric Psychiatrist you can find.  Don't let this doctor you have now turn your child into a problem.  Get to the source.
