WHAT CAN BE THE PROBLEM?

I Have a son who will be 4 on March 31, 2008 and he is very active. he can't sit still and constantly talks. even if you say "ok it's queit time". he can't do it and he just has to move and talk. and the teachers want me to get him checked because they say he is to hyper. I don't know what is wrong because he is the same way at home. What should I do?

I thought about what I said and focusing on the words "can't sit still and has to move".  I spoke with someone who has had experience with young children and questioned about Autism. I don't know that's just a thought.

Later,

My daughter is 5. I knew from the start that she wasn't the typical"normal 2,3,4 yr old everyone said. I heard she's a kid just a little more active than others. The best thing I can say is until they go to kindergarten where things are a bit more structered and disciplined will you know. I have a good kid but they thougth in pre k she was just a happier active playing over excited 4 yr old. Kindergarten teachers will see the difference. My daughter is very smart but because she has trouble sitting still, fidgeting, talking alot, not completing tasks, etc. The teachers know. If they have been teaching for many years they know kids behaviors. Listen to them. I listened and do not be ashamed of it. Would you rather ADHD hinder them in school. I definitely am doing something. I don't want her to have the frustration of not being able to do things because"its not her fault she can't help it"Just put on 5mg Adderall xr 5 days ago. see no difference. I think she needs a stronger dose. I'm hoping for the best. Good luck to you and remember the real test of knowing is when they start school with experienced teachers!!!

We knew something was wrong with our son by the time he was three.  He was abnormally hyper and impulsive and basically unreasonable.  Now at 4.5 he is on ritalin and is doing 100% better.  Trust your gut.  If you think he is fine, then don't sweat it.  If you feel like something is not right, pursue an evaluation.  We started by meeting with a psychologist to help us with behavior management and together with our pediatrition they diagnosed him with ADHD.

When you are the parent, you have to learn to listen to your own judgement about your child. Other people mean well and think they know what they are talking about but you know more than anyone how your child is. Most of the people that decide if your child is hyper do not live with your child or see them in as many different situations as you do. Listen to your gut and find a Dr. that will listen to you. Don't bother trying to convice other people about your child. Just do what is best for your family. Good Luck.

I am going through the exact same thing!  Everybody keeps telling me he's just a 3 year old and thats how they are.  No, not my son!  He is extremely hyper until time to go to bed!  He sleeps well at night, but come morning he's ready to GO!

I don't know any other way to say this so I'm just gonna say it and it may sound direct but here goes, dude your son is 3 years old of course he is gonna be active and talkative that's great.  As far as the teachers are concerned they need to get their heads examined or resign from teaching.  Hope this helps.

Peace
