What to do next

My son who is 4 was diagnosed with ADHD this summer.  We decided to have him tested because of his behavior at school and at daycare.  At school he would hide under chairs and not want to participate in the activities and if he had to go from play to sitting to do an activity he did not stop what he was doing.  He will not sing at the programs no matter how much he loves the songs they are singing.  At daycare he throws fits where he will kick or hit the wall while in time out or even spit on the floor.  He gets into moods where he doesn't want any of the kids to talk to him or be around him and will throw a fit if they do not leave him alone.  If he does something and it causes someone to be hurt by accident he just shuts down, he feels bad and tries to hide like he doesn't know what to do and is scared of what will happen next.  I am just not sure what to do because this is an everyday behavior and I just don't know what to do next. any suggestions?

Bad behavior and ADD are not synonymous. Too often we look for the simple way out - a pill - to solve the problem. Except that pills (and labels) should be a last resort. Some children are normal, but difficult. Parents may have to develop skills for raising such children. A therapist would be helpful in such a case. I would pursue this avenue first.

I would also look into SID or sensory integration disorder.  It can closely mimic adhd.  A number of his symptoms sound like SIDs.  And it is hard to tell the difference.  If a pediatrician did the original diagnosis he might have missed the SIDs.    Anyway, check out this link - http://www.sensory-processing-disorder.com/index.html
Check out this link, if it sounds possible I can direct you to more places for help.  If it doesn't seem to fit, I can also give you good resources for ADHD.  Best wishes.

You should take him to a counselor experience with ADHD and behavior modification who can help you and equip you with the tools you need as a parent to address the issues as your son grows.
