5 yr old hitting lashing out

My 5 yr old just started kindergarden and he's hitting & punching. He says he did it because he wanted to. The teacher said it was never done in anger. I don't know what to do. He almost seems like he can't control it.

I am assuming he doesnt do this at home? Did you ask him what caused him to act like this, had someone or something upset him, does he get on with the other children at school, any new happenings at home, Is Dad involved in his life , Sports activities , Physical games.Did the Teacher give any input to why it happened.
