self medicated ADD

i am 35 and was diagnoised with ADD at an early age and was prescribed with dexadrin sp? when i was 4 yrs old
continued to take until i was starting high school then i would not take as much  cause i was a teen and very stubborn, grades slipped dramatically, when i was a junior in high school i got turned on to Pot and have smoke hourly ever since.  i felt it that it helped me with my ADD and still do kinda do but recently have tried to ween myself off, but i just dont fell right,  i fell there is something missing and is very hard to get motivated without weed
i do notice that most of my friends that still smoke weed were also ADD and probably self medicating without knowing it
why are so many ADD people addicted to weed
i hate speed and all drugs prescribed with ADD
if i continue to not smoke weed anymore is there an alternitive beside speed drugs
since i quit smoking i have noticed when trying to go to sleep, right before i get that point my body, mostly left arm starts shaking and it will travel down my body, it is hard to describe but very uncomfertable, but usually i will get up and shake everything down , and i am out 30 mins. later

thanks for reading

I completely understand your dilemma my sister is 33 and self medicates she is slowly weening herself off too. She has returned to college to be an EMT/Firefighter and cannot continue smoking when she gets into her profession. I know it is hard but stick with it. The freedom of not using illegal drugs is worth it. I am not sure how she combats the ADHD without it. I am a Health insurance biller for a Dr. office and worked at our county hospital as a biller and my best suggestion to you is to go to your local Social Services office and see if you qualify for medical insurance. I know it is hard to do that and it may make you feel uncomfortable or like you are using the system but that is what it is there for. Especially now adays we are practically in a depression and the healthcare system is terrible. I have used Medi-cal (in the state of CA all other states it is Medicaid) and welfare as a singal mom. Also Coffee may help high protein diet. Calcium and magnesium and fish oil. That is what our Dr. prescribed out son when he was first diagnosed at age 5. Regrettably his ADHD was too severe to help. We then went to a hypertension medicine that is not methamphetamine based at all. That worked really well he slept better was gaining weight but again his ADHD is too severe and he needs something stronger to pass 1st grade. Also our dr has programs (that are expensive) that can retrain the dyslexic brain as well as reduce the hyperactivity and impulsivity. So I strongly suggest getting state health insurance and seeking a good Dr. that you like. Some Dr. will see you on a cash basis and give you a 10% discount. even if you see a Dr. 1 every 3 months. Things can get better, safer, and easier. Good luck
