Please go to this Web site amenclinics.com. At the bottom of the page there is an area that says ADHD self tests. Take this test with your husband and see what it says? If your son comes up probable for him having ADHD then it will take you to a brain test. After that it will give you some helpful information on what areas of the brain are possibly being effected. Then you can check the areas of the brain and what they do. It will give you over the counter medications to try, RX medications to try and also foods that can be helpful. There is also some great book, one is Right Brained Children in a Left Brained World by, Jeffrey Freed, M.A.T., and Laurie Parsons. It has been very helpful as well as Dr. Amens web site. Teach your child that having ADD or ADHD is something great! due to who he is and how he thinks. There is alot in life that he can do and be great at if he learns to use this to his advantage. Also for you, it is very hard to work with ADHD if you do not understand it. I am 43 and have ADHD, my two sons 17 and 8 also have it. We have had some very difficult times learning to understand ourselfs and each other. Research all you can about it and how to understand it. Good Luck and God Bless you.
Before the doctor should prescribe meds, you need to have an evaluation done by someone who is certified to test for ADHD. My child's doctor wouldn't prescribe meds until a full academic and psychological test was done. It took about 6 months but it was worth having all the information and gave the doctor a direction to go in prescribing meds and working with my child
