How long does soreness last from being choked?

I was choked by my partner Saturday night. I didn't lose consciousness and didn't feel pain right after. A couple of hours after, my neck was sore and then the next day it hurt when I swallowed. It still hurts when I swallow, like I have a really bad sore throat. Does anyone know how long this will last?

it all depends on how hard your partner choked you. it can last anywhere from a few days to a week or two. Drink plenty of cold liquids and take it easy on the choking so you can heal properly.

I'm sorry to hear you're in an abusive relationship. I hope you know that there's a better life for you out here. I had to leave my first husband for the same thing. He beat the women before me, and after me. It had nothing to do with me. I hope you don't think this is what you deserve?

You should always go to your doctor when you are physically harmed by your partner. They can take pictures and document what happened, so if and when you wish to leave, or get a restraining order for yourself (hopefully you don't have kids involved). I was a child of an abusive father. He really messed my life up for a long long time. Children from abusive homes are more likely to be in an abusive relationship themselves, either as the abuser or the victim. So if you choose to do this to yourself. that would be too bad, but to allow it to happen for your child or children to bare witness to, or become the target, should be criminal. It should have been criminal for my mother to allow me to be in an abusive home. (even though she was not physically abusive to her kids). It should be like teachers, that it is against the law for them not to bring it to the attention of the courts, that there's abuse in a young person's life. Don't you think?

You could have had your hyoid bone fractured. "Choking" is extraordinarily dangerous. Seek a medical evaluation.
