No smokes...the hardest part is night time boredom for me, so i try to keep as busy as possible...play guitar, go for a walk or just go to a coffee shop to read...anything to get out of the house...today I'm going for a day drive with friends to the mountains...
I also know that it's just changing habits for me, nicotine is easy it's the habit of smoking that is so difficult...head out to the back yard every twenty or thirty minutes for a smoke...I still go out back, but i just throw the ball for the dog instead...

"i once quit with chantix that stuff worked great"

I know a guy who had a psychotic episode due to Chantix where he thought the world was going to end and was thinking about shooting his kids and himself.

His daughter saw there was something going on with him and called the police. He told them the world was going to end when they got there, asked them to shoot him, and they hauled him off strapped to a chair to the psychiatric ward.

I smoked for 23 years.  Quit about 15 years ago.  Back then you needed an Rx for the nicotine patch, which is what I used.
The biggest problem was what do I do with my hands....
I cut straws in half to make them the size of a cig.  Then I chewed the h*** out of them..maybe for 6 months.  I had straws in my car, near the computer...everywhere I used to smoke.
I also took a mile walk immed after I ate cause that's when I really wanted a cig.
Now I can't stand the smell of them
Someone said to me "you'll never meet anyone that will say they wished they didn't stop smoking".  That really stuck in my head.
Good luck!  If I can quit, anyone can!

Fantastic! I carried small straws in my pocket. I put them in my mouth & drew on them like you would a smoke.  It gave me something to do w my hand too.
I quit 25 yrs ago. After I quit smoking & I was terrified I'd drink & forget I quit smoking. So I quit drinking too, for 12 yrs.  I'm very happy I only quit once. It's very very hard.   Pamela

I smoked a pack and a half of cigarettes a day for 40 years and was buying 4 cartons at month at about $160.

A couple years ago it started to make my mouth burn, something that never happened before, and I thought I might be developing cancer of the mouth, so that worried me. I tried switching to a brand I didn't like, putting them out half way down to cut down, and nothing helped.

Then I bought a pack of Phillies chocolate cigars and haven't smoked a cigarette in 2 years. I smoke 2 a day and am currently spending about $60 a month on them.

It's not stopped, but I have cut down and am saving a lot of money each month. I have too much other BS to deal with besides trying to stop using drugs to deal with quitting smoking now.

Def one of the more difficult habit to quit. I smoked for 13/14 years. Was part of my 30th birthday resolutions. That was nearly 10 years ago. For me, the first 2 weeks were by far the worst. Keeping distance from the nightlife scene helped and of course it's cool to keep distance from smokers (friends, family, associates, etc) for a time being. After awhile, even the smells of smoke irritated me. Now I'm cool with smokers a/o smoke. Just get over the hump and be cautious of your surroundings. Best of luck!

Just wanted to thank you for starting this thread - the smoking forum looks bare compared to this forum.  I had quit smoking for 5 years after severe lung issues (not due to smoking believe it or not).  I quit honestly with gum and sunflower seeds. I started back up after my 3rd was born and life crap happened.  He just turned 7.  I'm down to about 1/2 pack/day and know quitting is a must.  I thought I would get through detox...100 days now. So, looks like I'm about there.  I'm hoping that some of the AA techniques will help out.  Keep the thread going!  Best of luck to you and please keep us posted!

I've been a smoker on and off for 15 years....for me, I've found that the nicotine patch does wonders.  It really takes the edge off....and gives your body and mind time to adjust, from breaking the physical habit.  I went 4 years without smoking then gave in when I was dealing with severe post partum anxiety after I had my daughter, then I quit for a full year, and just this week picked up the habit again, because it was either that, or relapsing on pills....so I picked the better of the two evils.  Hoping it's just temporary....knowing I do have the skills to quit.  Good luck to you!!!!!

I'm on my last pack now.  Been smoking for 41 yrs with a brief reprieve for about 2 1/2 yrs about 13yrs ago.  Almost 7 mos clean of opiates, I too have battled benzos, uppers and alcohol......the smoking is a b*tch.

Hi, my plan is to quit smoking after i feel better from my detox. Ive smoked since i was 11 and im 35 now. I think quitting smoking is going to be the toughest habit for me to kick because i honestly love it.
Im getting those long white imitation smokes that blow out smoke. My partners cousin has been on them for over a year and swears by them. Good luck and well done for deciding to quit : )
