Book Club

Since quite a few of us expressed an interest in reading, I thought I would start a book club thread. Tell us what you are currently reading. Tell us books you have read in the recent past, and a brief review, good, bad, exciting, boring, etc..  Books on addiction, fiction, or non fiction. Reading is probably my favorite hobby. I read for entertainment, to learn, and to escape reality for a while.  So, what's on your bookshelf, or IPad, or Kindle?

Currently, I am reading W is for Wasted by Sue Grafton. I've read her entire series and love it. It's a murder, mystery with great characters!  Recently, I have read the Husbands Secret by Liane Moriarty, Defending Jacob by William Landay, and Gone girl by Gillian Flynn. Yes, I read a lot!  One of the best addiction books I've read recently is Guts by Kristen Johnston. I could really relate to her story of addiction to prescription pain meds and alcohol.

Can't wait to hear your suggestions!

Great idea Sonrissa! I read sooooo much....(too much)

Im currently reading "A Dance With Dragons" by: George R.R. Martin. Its 1000+ pager. The HBO series Game of Thrones was based off Martins books. This is book five of that series.

My favorite book of all time is "Master of the Game" by: Sydney Sheldon. I absolutely love that book. Could not put it down once I started it.

I love all kinds of books. Fantasy, Thriller, Mystery, Self Help, etc. If you haven't read Mater of the Game...I promise you wont be disappointed.

YOUR so right about Pillars ABN! Omg! Yes! And Sonrissa you will not be disappointed! At first I really thought it would be a "BT" book but they are sooooo not! I've never read the Grafton books BC I thought they would be silly but I'm hearing great things about them so I think I will as soon as I finish these left behind ones! TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE was a good book that I enjoyed reading with my daughters.

I recently read 'Dr. Sleep' by Stephen King. It was pretty good. It's a sequel of sorts to 'The Shining' and is about the little boy who is all grown up. He still has 'the shining' and a whole new set of problems. If you like Stephen King, or anything on the macabre side of things, this is a good book for you.

I also loved Master of the Game! I read it years ago. I think my favorite book(s) of all time are by Steven King: The Stand, and 11/22/63 (fiction about Kennedy's assassination) I've read them both at least twice! I love most of Stephen King's work, but not all of it. Under the Dome was another good one!

You guys may need to tell me to shut up. Cause I could go on and on forever! ;)

I thought Dr. Sleep was a snoozer. After all of these years of waiting I was very disappointed. It was dragged out in places it didn't need to be.

That's what I mean about Stephen King. I love some of his books, and others are flat out boring or so convaluded I can't follow them! Just when I think he has jumped the shark, and give up on him, he will come out with something brilliant!

I didn't really like Dr. Sleep or In the tall grass (the novella). It was hard for me to get through! I like page turners! The kind you just can't put down and read until you can't keep your eyes open any longer! Lol! I'm glad you liked it tho Ang! Different strokes for different folks as they say :-)

OK, big confession here! I loved the Twilight Series. I started reading them with my Tween niece. We read them together, and I think I loved them more than she did! LOL! I am a sucker for a good love story. I'm not usually into the vampire thing, but I fell in love with the love story. Made me wish I was a teenager in love again! You all can laugh at me if you want! I wouldn't blame you!

I'm with you on that Sonrissa! I ran out of things to read and my daughter had them and I was hooked! Loved them! An older book that I have in my library &thoroughly enjoyed is: The edge of sadness by Edwin O'Connor. About a priest who is a recovering alcoholic. Its fiction but very believable! Also The executioner's song by Norman Mailer is a good one!

Danielle Steele is my favorite author and i have read every one of her books.

The Heroin Diaries by Nikki Sixx is a very powerful true story of addiction.

The one book that stood out after all these years for me was a book we read in school.............Go Ask Alice.

Oh, I remember go Ask Alice! I read that in High School. I was so shocked by it and that it could have really happened.

I have Heroin Diaries by Nikki Six on my IPad. I haven't started it yet. I thought I'd read it over Christmas since that is a difficult time for us addicts.

I just started John Grishams Sycamore Road. I finished Sandra Browns latest hardback this morning, but it wasn't worth paying full cover price for.

W is for Wasted was pretty good.

I love Patricia Cornwell but believe Kathy Reichs is better. Also love Michael Connelly, Michael Palmer, Robin Cook, James Patterson, although his books are becoming a little outlandish.

My guilty pleasures are Twilight series, Sookie Stackhouse series ( TRU Blood) and the House of Night series. Oh and 50 Shades of Grey and the Crossfire series.

Being as I read a book every 1-2 days, it's seriously hurting my budget!  I do own a kindle, so seeing as a lot of us share love of the same genre, any free Kindle book recommendations?

The library is out! I put my name on the Sookie Stackhouse book in April. It wasn't released until May, and I was number 472.

But James Pattersons latest book Gone, took me all of six hours to read. So it does get expensive!

I detest romance, but if I'm "book less" and having a panic attack over it, I will re read Danielle Steel, as much as it embarrasses me to admit!

I don't ever get freaked out over a book. But for some reason, Gillian Flinn's (sp) book Gone bothered me.

Rosy, read Sue Grafton in order. It isn't so much you won't understand if you jump in the middle, but the character development is important I think!

I forgot, I love Faye Kellermans Decker/Lazurus detective series. I just found it, so I was able to read all the books in order, going back to the nineties. Her other books I don't care for at all.
