wow i have not herd Bukowski,s name in years I enjoyed his poetry in my early 20's
It's funny, I didn't used to care for his writing at all. I suppose after all I've been through I can comprehend and appreciate it better.
y'know, he died in the past few years. He had cancer i think, and got his drinking under control, stopped binge drinking.
Just drank for the pleasure of it, not really getting drunk at all. For a life long alcoholic of his stature, it's something of an accomplishment. He passed quietly at home with his wife and cats by his side.
I always found him an enigma. Typically addicts can't produce art while messed up, but he NEVER stopped writing, no matter what state he was in.
I have Bukowskis' "Love is a dog from hell" on my coffee table.
Also, a compilation of short stories called "Drinking, smoking and screwing-- great writers on good times", which includes one of his stories. The only way I use these days is vicariously!!
Those are great! i lost all my Bukowski to water damage last year :( and am contemplating replacing them. I wish the bound the books better, though! That cardboard style just doesn't hold together well.
