One year our tree box had got destroyed by the kids. So we took all the decorations off and left the lights on. they were white ones that year. So, Jan. came & went and then Feb. came and for Valentines Day the kids decorated the tree with red ornaments and hearts etc. Well, then Feb. flew by and still no box for this beautiful tree now stripped down to the white lights again. Sooooooo, Spring sprang and the kids decorated it with homemade decorations that represented the coming of spring. Then you guessed it, EASTER!!!!!!
So my very creative children went at it with Easter eggs and bunnies and ribbons and rainbows blah, blah, blah! OK, now I was getting really sick of looking at this tree by now it is heading on into May! Sooooooooo, I finally went down and bought a box for our everything tree! LOL I told my little princess this story the other day! She doesn't remember cuz she was so young then. But she thought it was a splendid idea! I said OH NO YOU DON"T, besides this tree is real! So, she goes... "Momma, can I tell my friends the story ?" I thought about it for a minute and said ... "No, maybe you shouldn't!" I don't know why? I just told you guys? SOoooooo, maybe I'll tell her she can tell her friends if she wants to! LOL HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Too funny! I say do what ever you wanna do! Screw everybody else! YEAH!
LMAO,
D
here in the south they leave it up most of the year...halloween stuff on the tree...mardi gras in february....then geez it is so close to halloween again..why bother LOL....eagle..u lazy devil u..take the dern tree down!
Three years ago I threw our Christmas tree out the front door, decorations and all, on the 26th. I'm the wrong person to ask here but I'm enjoying the posts! Now the joke around the neighborhood and with my councelor is "how is the Christmas tree doing" LOL
I think you need to periodically post pictures of your tree with the new decorations on it...
my husband put so many lights up outside, i swear we are both addicts
gota have more
we live beside a babtist childrens director
and across from a bob jones professor
xmas means alot to them apparently
buy my hubby took it to another level
i was angry at first, then i just had to laugh
it was so tacky.......and yes, the outside lights are still up
xo
This has been a great help to me.
But if we all collectively formed a self-help group our sponsor would have to have followed a 20 step plan.........
For quite a few years, Mary & I and a bunch of friends would celebrate a form of Festivus, right before Xmas.....anyone familiar with this?....Seinfield Show..Festivus??..feats of strength??, airing of grievances????? I'll get to the tree part in a sec..... Anyway, we collected all these very strange hats and everyone would have to wear these hats at the Festivus party...And Lays (sp), Hawaiian lays..and party horns, that we'd all blow every time someone would arrive. Lots of weird stuff and lots of drinking. So all this stuff, would end up on the tree at the party, sparklers, lays, horns etc. It ended up being the greatest tree ever. Oh yeah, and everyone would have to drinks some shots, poured down thru a horn and they'd have to blow the horn right after. Kinda messy.
I know, we're strange. No mediocrity around here.
Mary's ex-husband used to decorate Xmas tree with Beer cans (not while they were married) lol
My sister-in-law was having some difficulties health-wise a couple years ago and they left their tree up with white lights. So, they took the ornaments off and decorated for each of the holidays accordingly for the whole year. It was actually quite nice!
I love the Christmas tree so much. With how sick I have been, I didn't put my decorations up until two days before Christmas and so mine are staying up until the end of this month!!!! LOL!!!! Maybe I'll leave mine up for valentines too! :)
LOL eagle I threw out alot of my halloween stuff this year cause I didnt feel like packing it up!
Please refer to flamgis post about mediocrity and "normalcy" - - maybe we are related in spirit, and maybe in thought. Or procrastination defined? Perhaps we arent even : normal. Thank God!!
Well, I don't know what to say...I still have my Halloween lights up from 2007...I guess I just like orange and purple...they're in my house, I light them every night , too!! =D
I meant LIKE........not lie!!!
I lie flmagi ideas.......what a neat tree that would be!!!!
Would love to have any/all you fine people around. Starfish - heck with those 20 yr olds - throw those crabs my way .... I can catch and boil water --- and eat crabs!!!
I like the way this is heading.......many great ideas! Will be quite intersting to see what further develops.
Long live anything worth celebrating and decorating for!!!!
I like Marys idea I wish I could do that =) I like the palm tree thing too eagle I love palm trees I think its from living in the cold seeing them makes me think of warm places. Ohh and by the way magi gizzy and I were discussing it and we are coming to stay with you lol.
Hey, don't feel bad. Our tree is still up and fully decorated and our Christmas village is still up. My wife loves Christmas and would extend it as long as possible.
Hey what about us hard working ladies on the forum, I can out work twenty year old guys when it comes to pulling, stacking, trowing stone crab traps :)
Whatever floats your boat is fine with me...I say go for it if it makes you happy :)
Ok, how about, along with putting seasonal decorations on the tree, throughout the year you add special little things to the tree from special moments during the year....Pictures from kids birthdays, weddings, births, new friends you made, memorial cards if loved one passes, awards, parties, vacation memorabilia....get the idea? Then by Christmas, you'll have a gathering of the whole years special events. It could be made into a new tradition on New years day, taking down the years memories, reminiscing and putting them into a Special box..ex. 2009 special events. Then you start over for the next year.
LOL I'm liking this whole idea too!
One thing that I have never been accussed of is "normalcy" - so have no worries about the mediocrity thing.....
I like the various suggestions - especially the decorating the tree for the different holidays ....MLK, Easter, July 4th, and all of them.
And Jacqui - I have a "thing" for palm trees.....I may just go to an artificial palm tree with lights and decoration for fair weather and use the evergreen for the rest of the year.....I am really liking this. Plus it means that I am off the hook for taking the tree down 'till at least Jan 20 (MLK Day!)
I agree with flmagi too...it wuold be fun, if it's not in the way, just keep it up all year round, change the decorations and enjoy.. you might be sick of it by christmas next year though..lol
dominosarah, what a great idea, that should scare away any rats, mice, bugs, intruders..lol
I say always buy a real tree and day after cut it up and through it into the fire place
I say throw a garbage bag over it, lights, ornaments and all.......then drag it out to the garage and it will be already for next year. lol Even better yet..... put some wheels on it !
we could all send you pics of us and you could hang them on your tree too!!!! Okay i am going to my "planet" too!!!
I think flmagi's suggestion is a great one and I'd like that myself...the trouble with MY fake Christmas tree is that it's HUGE and has just as huge a diameter...If you can spare the space, why NOT leave it up and decorate it accordingly for each season or holiday..sounds lovely...then you can take pics of it and put 'em here for us all to oogle over.
