How long for Vicodin withdrawl?

My wife has serious back problems in the past and had dropped Vicodin for fear of becoming too dependant in the past without serious withdrawl problems, choosing pain over addiction.  However over the last month she has had to resort to the pill to get her through a particularly rough patch.  Now that she is through and has stopped the drug her withdrawl symptoms are much more severe than before.  My question is - how long do you thing these symptoms (vomiting, nausea) will last?
It has been three days.  Do you think after a month on the pill that these are with drawl symtoms - or something else?  She had been off the pill for app. three months.

Im 26 and i have back pain that goes down the left leg and numb. I start taking vicodin ES, then Norco. i was up to 6 -10/325 mg of Norco and sometimes took up to 8-9, the pain just didnt go away. Then my Doctor gave me Avinza 30mg (morphine) one a day plus no more that 6 norco's. Right now im trying to kick all of this **** cause im getting tried of it, I have stoped before for like 3-4 days but its hell. I feel like ****, i **** like 5 times a day, i sweat. The reason why i wanna kick it is to seee if i can just deal with the pain like i used too. It seems like i got sucked into this habbit if you know what i mean, u take and u feel good them next thing you know your hooked big time. The bad thing about take all of this was that i could go to work every day and no one knew i was on anything. Can anyone help, this is day one for not taking any, and i do have Xanex .25mg to calm me down. Thanks

Her back of course - cannot get comportable - she had a back operation last year  - hasnt slept/ate/drank  in days- .  She says she could deal with the back pain if she could just stop vomiting/feelin nausua - cannot keep anythinbg down.  The doc gave her pills to stop it 3 days ago - didn;t work - today a suppository that she assumed would cure all - no help. Any suggestions?

There is no cure all unless you get her meds like suboxone (which takes a month just to get into to see a doc) or another option is clondine (it is a blood pressure med).  They both help with the withdrawals, from what I have read here, but you need a doc to get them.  The only other thing is time.  I know it is h*ll to watch her go through this but after today it will get slowly better.

Thanks for the Thomas Recipe - tall order - but whatever it takes - we're hurting here.  As for mg's - I do not have that info - Vicodin I know for sure and I've just been told that the usage has been since June - three months NOT one month.  How many pills in how many days is beyond me - and her at this point - she has admitted that withwrawl is most likley the problem here - finally!!!  How do I get her through this?  how do I keep from it when she is in so much pain?

She went through a month script in 2 weeks?  I am sorry I am not sure if i understood that correctly.  If that is the case and depending on the m/g's - it still does not sound like she is using too heavily yet.  I know this is rough for you to watch - stomach bug (especially diarrhea) is very common, sleeplessness, aches, RLS - restless leg syndrome, depression, and other symptoms.  The thomas recipe is somthing you can use all of or partial.  Do you have any benzo's at home - they will help to calm her.  Just becareful they are addicting and should be monitored closely.  Here is the recipe - get what you can tonight to make her comfortable.  I would also like to mention that I think it is wonderful that you are helping her.  Just try to remember she will probably be very emotional right now.  Just support her.  Do not blame, accuse or anything else.  That is the last thing she needs and I am sure you would not do that - considering the help you are trying to find for her but withdrawing is one of the hardest, if not the hardest thing I have ever been through.

THOMAS RECIPE

If you can't take time off to detox, I recommend you follow a taper regimen using your drug of choice or suitable alternate -- the slower the taper, the better.

For the Recipe, You'll need:

1. Valium (or another benzodiazepine such as Klonopin, Librium, Ativan or Xanax). Of these, Valium and Klonopin are best suited for tapering since they come in tablet form. Librium is also an excellent detox benzo, but comes in capsules, making it hard to taper the dose. Ativan or Xanax should only be used if you can't get one of the others.

2. Imodium (over the counter, any drug or grocery store).

3. L-Tyrosine (500 mg caps) from the health food store.

4. Strong wide-spectrum mineral supplement with at least 100% RDA of Zinc, Phosphorus, Copper, Magnesium and Potassium (you may not find the potassium in the same supplement).

5. Vitamin B6 caps.

6. Access to hot baths or a Jacuzzi (or hot showers if that's all that's available).

How to use the recipe:

Start the vitamin/mineral supplement right away (or the first day you can keep it down), preferably with food. Potassium early in the detox is important to help relieve RLS (Restless Leg Syndrome). Bananas are a good source of potassium if you can't find a supplement for it.

Begin your detox with regular doses of Valium (or alternate benzo). Start with a dose high enough to produce sleep. Before you use any benzo, make sure you're aware of how often it can be safely taken. Different benzos have different dosing schedules. Taper your Valium dosage down after each day. The goal is to get through day 4, after which the worst WD symptoms will subside. You shouldn't need the Valium after day 4 or 5.

During detox, hit the hot bath or Jacuzzi as often as you need to for muscle aches. Don't underestimate the effectiveness of hot soaks. Spend the entire time, if necessary, in a hot bath. This simple method will alleviate what is for many the worst opiate WD symptom.

Use the Imodium aggressively to stop the runs. Take as much as you need, as often as you need it. Don't take it, however, if you don't need it.

At the end of the fourth day, you should be waking up from the Valium and experiencing the beginnings of the opiate WD malaise. Upon rising (empty stomach), take the L-Tyrosine. Try 2000 mgs, and scale up or down, depending on how you feel. You can take up to 4,000 mgs. Take the L-Tyrosine with B6 to help absorption. Wait about one hour before eating breakfast. The L-Tyrosine will give you a surge of physical and mental energy that will help counteract the malaise. You may continue to take it each morning for as long as it helps. If you find it gives you the "coffee jitters," consider lowering the dosage or discontinuing it altogether. Occasionally, L-Tyrosine can cause the runs. Unlike the runs from opiate WD, however, this effect of L-Tyrosine is mild and normally does not return after the first hour. Lowering the dosage may help.

Continue to take the vitamin/mineral supplement with breakfast.

As soon as you can force yourself to, get some mild exercise such as walking, cycling, swimming, etc. This will be hard at first, but will make you feel considerably better.

That's a mystery - a one month script in 2 weeks - I think,  She is in day 4 of symptoms of what she is calling a stomach virus?!? - and no - until tonight I haven't heard of the Thompson recipe.  I saw it posted on another site but did not pay too much attention.  Any info would help!

How much was she taking?  It takes about a week for the worst of it to be over.  Day three is always the worst for me.  Have you tried the Thomas recipe to help with her symptoms - have you heard of it?
