My Mom is taking Ativan

And I know it's for her anxiety level.. as she has a hard time breathing when she sits up or lays downs... expecially when she lays down....Her dosage is 0.5 mg but I think she is taking more as she seems to run out... and kinda has that Thousand Mile Stare in her eyes....She is on Hospice care and they are prescribed to her but I just worry about her taking too much.... She only weighs in at a whopping 85 pounds....I know that the Comfort Care is a huge thing with Hospice... I just don't want my Mom overdosing herself... as that would be a major sin in the Lords eyes....Any advice on how to gently remind my Mom that less is more for her would be appreciated....

Thank you in advance for your care and responses,
Much Love,
NorcoQueen

Is it possible to have hospice care have a nurse dispense her medication? I know they did this for my Grandmother. Maybe you could request it? That way, you don't become the "bad guy".

Hey Friend~

Do you think she may just be forgetting that she recently took one and then taking another?  I know this is common with many folks and my own Mom does this !!  With my Mom I just said :Are you sure you want another one?  And she thanked me because she had forgotten.  OMG!!  I know how you must feel because my Mom lives alone and I just happened to catch this when visiting her.  You are both in my prayers.

I would just sit down and be Honest with her and tell her of your fears and concerns.. That you love her and you do not want her to waste the life she has left in a drug induced stupor.. The last few days of my mom's life she was on so much morphine she was not with us I do not hold this against her as the multiple myeloma was so painful but it never hurts for your mom to hear the concern and love.. I will say a prayer and want to say I'm so sorry you are going through this.. warmly lesa
