Thanks,  I actually do know who Neil Diamond is, and hard to believe, but I have seen him in concert as well.......     I truly don't live in a myopic world, but thank you for the offer of sending me one of his cd's to "enlighten" me...  absolutely not necessary.

Paris Hilton???  Really??  I will assume that was your attempt at humor, because I cannot imagine anyone I would rather NOT meet, or waste 2 minutes of my life on...

Good luck with all the music stuff,  this is way too strange for me to wrap my simple head around....

Don't beat yourself up.....it's not like you are the Janis Joplin police or something!!!  Lots of people listen to music and enjoy it but don't spend a lot of time researching the bands and their lives. Don't worry that you didn't know. It's okay......no swirly needed :-)
If you want to do some research, you will be horrified at how many of your favorite musicians/bands have been killed because of drugs and alcohol. Those that weren't killed have some horror stories to tell and their bands were destoyed because of the drugs/alcohol...and then there are the bands/musicians that pulled through it and are better off now than they ever were. Lots of sad stories and wastes of talent in the music world.
We're collecting a list of musician names (on the other side of the forum) if you want to weigh in on some bands/singers you think should be included in our soundtrack.....you can read the posts and see where some of your bands shake out at....druggies or okay.....the post is entitled food for thought for my fellow addicts or something like that.
So...are you back to supporting Neil or someone else....pray, do tell

OMG you guys I'm so sorry, I didn't know how she died :(. Had I known I wouldn't have ever ever EVERRRR mentioned her. Eeeeek I'm so sorry. I swear I'll stick my head in the toilet and flush a million times! Or maybe you can forgive me and save me from a swirly? Really and truly, all kidding aside I really am sorry!!!

Yeah, you're right, it stinks that so much talent was well...flushed. It is sad.

I love Janis Joplin but she can't be our official singer/song writer because she overdosed and died :-(
Having said that that means there is a lot of good music we can't use in our soundtrack because there was an actual drug overdose associated with them:
Alice in Chains, Blind Mellon, Sublime, Mother Love Bone, Graham Parsons, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zepplin, The Who, The Vandals, The Sex Pistols, The Germs, Skinny Puppy, Morphine, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Def Leppard, Atari Teenage Riot, Nike Drake, Tom Petty and the Heartbreaker, The Pretenders, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Hole, The Temptations, Rory Gallagher, The Squirrel Nut Zippers, Tommy Dorsey, The Righteous Brothers, Malfunkshun, Ratt, Crazy Horse, The Byrds, The Smashing Pumpkins, Ramones, Culture Club (okay..they sucked), AC-DC, Three Dog Night, Blues Traveler, Little Feat, Uriah Heep, Canned Heat, The Associates, Deep Purple, EMF, The Grateful Dead, Average White Band, Thin Lizzy, The Blues Brothers (tragedy).

Then we have our awesome musicians/bands who had people die BECAUSE they were abusing drugs/alcohol or they overdosed on it but it caused them to drown or whatever. So a drug overdose or habitual abuse killed them but the official cause of death is listed as stroke or heart attack or cirrhosis of the liver or GI bleed or head injury or whatever:

Styx, Billie Holiday, Nirvana, The Beach Boys, The Rolling Stones, Elvis Presley, The Doors, Humble Pie, Mamas and the Papas, Derick and the Dominos, The Guess Who,  Michael Jackson, to name just a few.

Sorry, not trying to be a downer....but these two lists are only a tiny, small portion of the musicians/bands that have had drug abuse ruin them.
Obviously these are only some of the bandsthat have been affected and I've only listed off the ones I could think of off the top of my head. I'm sure if I spent some more time on it I could make my list a whole lot longer. Plus, there are tons of other musicians/bands that don't fit into the 'good music' catergory in my opinion so I don't have them listed because I don't like their music (with the exception of Culture Club--I have NO idea why I put them on my list because I really think their music sux. I didn't care for Michael Jackson's music much either, but he was a pioneer so I put him on the list. There are lots of individual jazz and blues musicians I could have put down, but most people wouldn't know who they were so I tried to keep it main stream and relevant to all.

Anyway, I know we all like to joke around and have fun- I do too. But every now and then I gotta go for a reality check. I LOVE music and it saddens me to see all the great talent we've lost because of someone's inability to overcome their addiction.

Any thoughts or ideas from anyone?
Any names of music we can't include in our soundtrack?

Hope I didn't bring everyone down. I'm the first one to goof around to lighten things up. It's just that I was reading through this post and realized that Janis Joplin couldn't be used and it made me sad and it made me start thinking....
Stay Strong,

Heck, you didn't offend with your Anchovie comments because I gotta admit I actually owned an Anchovie tape (for a short time) when I was in high school. In my book though, they are a lot like Michael Jackson (No, not creepy looking with one white, sequined glove and goofy dance moves) but rather in the sense that he some how always ended up having one huge hit after another yet NOBODY would fess up to actually owning any of his music. Hmmm.....
I, myself, was truly a metal head so I can honestly say I didn't own any of his music. In fact, I didn't even buy the Anchovie tape. My sister got it for me for my birthday and then stole it back for herself after a couple of weeks.
Anyway, glad you had fun at the concert. I really think you should have worn a helmet and thrown yourself across the stage!! It would have made for a great story here on the forum. I can see the title of the post now:  "LateAugust seeking bail money from forum friends"
It's okay to not like Neil Diamond....it's not like we have a hit squad to take out our Non-Neil people on the forum!  Um, having said that, you do seem like a really nice person-perhaps you shouldn't stand by any of your windows for a few days :-) Just kidding........
We'll just slowly wear you down--kind of like chinese water torture. Resistance is futile...you will be assimilated!!!

Do you own any Neil Diamond? If you don't let me know. I can burn you a CD and send it to you (or make you a tape if you are more comfortable in that medium-some people just don't like change)  I know you're in Washington, somewhere around Seattle.....either that, or you have WAY to much money and used your own private jet to fly to Seattle to see the Anchovie concert for sh*ts and giggles. Do you have any relatives named Paris or Nicky by chance?!?

Okay Ms.Late....take care of yourself and let me know if you need me to send you some Neil. Trust me, let me force your mind open wide and it will only hurt for a minute...and then you too will love him.
Have you seen the movie 'Saving Silverman'? If not, watch it. It will help explain.

take care of yourself.

Anchovie is playing in Seattle? Have fun at the concert. Don't dislocate anything when you throw yourself at the stage....maybe you should wear a helmet to prevent brain damamge :-) (though if you like Anchovie I fear it's too late!)

I should have read all of this post first before I mentioned panties, apparently it was bras flying across the stage, not panties!!  And I am sure all of those D's would have caught someone's attention!!

Honestly I don't know what fool would throw their panties anywhere,  Tom Jones or Mr. Diamond.......  however,   Bon Jovi is in Seattle this weekend and that was one of my Christmas presents.....  so  the only thing I plan on throwing across the stage or platform  is my body!!  :)

Have a great weekend!

I hate bras.......I'm well endowed and the straps dig in after wearing the over-the-shoulder-boulder-holder for even a short time. I have to wear one in public or risk being arrested for scaring small children.

Hmmm....Now that I'm an expert at creating polls I think 'panties versus commando' could be the next poll..........I'll add it to the list.

If I don't wear a bra I have to wear a belt to keep 'em in my shirt and out of my pants!
