New here...tramadol user

Hi everyone! I am new here and have been inspired by everyone on this forum to stop using tramadol. I think I read somewhere about amino acids are good with withdrawals but I cannot remember where I saw it. Right now I am tapering off of my tramadol. I have been on it off and on for 10 years with the past 5 years being there worst where I have even spent alot of money ordering it on the internet even though I get alot from my doc. He said it wasn't addiciting...yeah, right. Anyway, I am a proud mother of 5 and have three little ones under the age of 5. I was using 15 - 20 per day depending on the stress that day. I found this forum 10 days ago and decided to taper 9 days ago. I went from that amount to now 9 a day and haven't had any major problems except for being a bit tired. Nothing like going cold turkey which I have done many times before. Anyway, I just wanted to say hi to all of you and thank everyone for helping me stick with this tapering schedule even though you don't know you did help. Just reading everyone's posts and knowing I am not alone makes a huge difference! I hope to reach my goal of being completely off of this within the next few months. It is hard and I pray this time I don't start again but this is the first time I tapered and the first time I have a support group to talk with since my husband cannot understand what I am goin through. Talk to you all soon! Take care and God Bless! Lisa

That drug is a anti depressant.. If you think since you don't take it that often that you could not take it while you take the amino acids that would be best. I actually went off of my SSRI"s to do this therapy and didn't need them after ward.. Here is the info that I compiled from the book If you have any questions just ask..

All of this program is from the book END YOUR ADDICTION NOW.. the doctor who wrote it ran a treatment facility in UPstate New york where they gave patients amino acids and vitamin via IV during treatment.. He also counsels patients individually.. All of these things are meant to rebuild activity in the major neuro transmitters.. as addicts our neurotransmitters have been disrupted by our use of drugs.. even stuff like cigarettes and eating alot of sugar can disrupt them.. with drugs however it can be more damaging.. I will list the aminos maily used for addiction, their dosages etc.. everything should be taken on a empty stomach... an hour b4 meals.. Take all of them together with lots of water...

B- vitamin Complex either 50mgs or 100mgs, needed for absorption of aminos..

Multi mineral vitamin, just good to take all around

5HTP-- this is what tryptophan gets turned into prior to being turned into serotonin in our brains. Serotonin is what is usually depleted if we are depressed and anxious.. Taking this will help with PAWS ( post accute withdrawl syndrome) or eliminate you suffering from them all together      DO NOT TAKE IF YOU ARE TAKING A SSRI OR TRICYLIC ANTI DEPRESSANT
Dosage-- up to 300mgs a day 3x DAILY ( I take 100mgs 3x per day, start with the lower dose and move up if needed)

L-glutamine--amino acid required for GABA production, that is the relaxing part of our brain.    up to 2000mgs 3x per day.. ( I take 1000 mgs 3x day, again start lower and work up if needed)

L-Taurine-- another "relaxing" amino  up to 1000mgs 3x daily

DLPA-- helps restore the function to the pain receptors working with the enporphins/enkephalins  DO NOT TAKE IF YOU ARE TAKING A SSRI OR TRICYLIC ANTIDEPRESSANT
Dose-- up to 2000mgs 3x per day (again you can start lower like 1000mgs 3x daily)

L-leucine-- required for the production of endorphins up to 500mgs 3x per day

L-methionine-- same as leucine

If you find yourself really struggling with energy after being on the aminos you can add L-tyrosine to the mix in the early part of the day.. up to 1,500mgs..  This is not usually used in the treatment of pain pill addiction and can over stimulate some people I would say only take it if you are still struggling with energy after starting everything else..

If you find yourself having some anxiety the amino L-theanine is like natural valium.. It has helped me so much I no longer need to take xanax at all for my panic attacks

If you are interested in other ways to help heal.  Ester C 500mgs to 1000mgs per day can be very helpful.. as well as extra calcium and magnesium.. Alpha lipoic acid is a anti oxidant that helps portect your body against free radicals.. EFA"S can also help in the form of fish oils and omega 3's

As far as sleep.. in my early days off of pills I took a sleep blend from GNC with a L-theanine and calcium magnesium liquid everynight and slept like a baby.

I suggest GNC to purchase this stuff they are pretty cheap (some stuff is only 4.99 a bottle)  they were also super helpful and knew alot.. I got a gold card to save some bucks in the future..

After a few months if you are feeling good you can taper the aminos back to once a day... then a few months after that a few times a week.. the best part about taking aminos instead of drugs is you don't have to take them forever to get the benefit.. the FIX the problem not put a band aid on it..

If you have any questions I am always around.. Stephanie

I post alot of info about amino acids.. all the info I have is from the book END YOUR ADDICTION NOW  since you are coming off of Tramadol I would suggest a few different combos since not only is it an opiate but it also stimulates the neurotransmitter serotonin. If you would like I can give you the info, are you taking any SSRI"s or benzo's??  That will help me give you the right info.

Good Luck to you
Stephanie

Thanks! I am just taking a multi-vitamin, B vitamin, and drinking green tea since I am tapering off of ultram this time. however, after 5 years of heavy usage with just very few breaks, I still am feeling tired alot and get alot of headaches...not to mention my neck pain is worse since I am taking lower doses than what will help it. So, what would help so when I finally get off of it completely? I know I will go through some w/d even with tapering once I stop completely, but I want to make myself healthy as can be prior to it. I take elavil every now and then which is something the doc prescribed me to take at bedtime a long time ago...I think it is an anti-depressant but not sure. I don't take it every night because I am so worried about getting dependant on that too. I do take an herbal sleep aide to help sleep. Any additional information that you have would be very much appreciated! Thank you so much! Lisa

Thanks you two! Yes. It took a few days for me to actually post something because I was worried I was going to give up too soon. I think this tapering is working for me so I am glad I didn't go cold turkey. Thanks for your responses and welcoming me to the forum. Good luck to all! Lisa
