Refections on Winter......

As the Winter season approaches....it can be a very hard time for some of us.  Short days, more darkness, confined more indoors, inclement weather, etc.  So....I decided it would be fun to share some things that I've been intentionally thinking about should my attitude need some adjusting during the upcoming months.

"To Everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven." Ecclesiastes 3:1

Spring ushers in birth and renewal.....promise and hope.....colors abound all around

Summer brings growth and warmth and sunshine

Fall/Autumn rewards us with the harvest...and a bounty to see us through

Winter provides a time of "rest", a time to store energy so we can grow in the Spring
A time for evaluation, planning, preparation and reflection.
A time to shovel snow and ice from the driveway of our minds.

Seasons affect all of us and everything we do:  how we dress; what activities we engage in; what we eat; our moods and attitudes.  So in that spirit, I decided to write down and share some of the things I truly do love about this inevitable season which can be pretty harsh where I live.  Hope you'll chime in and share, too......

The smells...oh the smells:  firewood burning, being able to burn my candles and incense again without heating up the house.  Homemade soups, chili, spaghetti sauce, cornbread and beans, food baking as my oven heats the kitchen.  Scents that make me want to snuggle.....curling up with a good book; soaking in a hot bubble bath; football and basketball games and the snacks that seem to "go with"; not having to shave my legs as often; getting to wear sweats & warm sloppy clothes (and the "no bra" privilege that comes with that); not caring if my toenails are polished; using my hot pad and not "overheating" myself; and new to me this year is riding in my car and having my bum and back heated by my new cool feature in my car that I haven't gotten to use until now...LOL  And as I just went outside, I was reminded that in just a little while...NO MORE BUGS!!!!!

There are several things I love about winter. One thing we do is light a fire and dim the lights. My wife or I will read outloud and we all sit around together and imagine. We can go anywhere. We are half way through White Fang right now, that's a tough ole dog.

And of coarse, SNOWBOARDING!

Waking up and watching the sun come up over the fresh snow covered trees and mountains is like heaven.

Snowshoes in the back country and cross country skiing.

Friends have the time to come over for dinner and talk about last summer.

The look on the kids face Christmas morning and the love we share, though we don't do a lot of presents, it is a special time.

People on the street smile and say high more, the tourists are gone.

I plan to have a very special and memorable winter.

Yep, everyday! Ooh I couldn't stand to let it be all prickly until the soft stage.
Admission: I used to carry a razor and cream, and shave in the bathroom at work if I was pulling a double, 16 hours! It's not vanity, I was in scrubs. I just can't stand it. I'm OCD about it lol. #NoHairyLegs :)

Ah yes....I love not having to shave my legs in the winter too! Good times :)

Winter and the holidays can be hard for me. The cold weather always seems to make my back hurt more but the major pain I feel is not being allowed to see my kids on Christmas. Its always a week or so before or after that I get to see them. I miss the whole Christmas experience with them. This year, I will try to stay busy with my church. If they have something they need done...I will volunteer. This is a special time of year for me as I'm a "believer".  I honor and celebrate His birth.

I cant so much complain about the weather....Hollywood bay-bay!

oh my, my first time over on this side and its nice to have a laugh!!!  "hairy mountain mama" now that is funny as crap, i will admit, my legs are hairy and my toes are not polished.  I just love the smell of a FIRE!, love sitting beside the fire place curled up in a blanket watching some movies.  OH how can i fail to mention all the "comfort" foods, chili, stews, soups, etc, and all the tasty baked goods......yummy.  For some reason though in the winter my dryer seems to never work properly and it "SHRINKS" all my jeans....HMMMM anyone else have this problem with there dryer?

Yes..Just do not get stuck on the Spin cycle of the washing machine. Then we can move onto the dryer..Ha!!!
It was snowing last week but now it is still snowing pine needles..Been having the wood stove going for a week now..lol

Look out here comes the Winter Snow. You can blink a eye and summer is over here. It goes form Winter to Summer and back. I am moving to Mexico. lmao..

So I can climb in my dryer and have my wife hit 'normal'? Why didn't you tell me about that sooner? I have all winter, so if doesn't work at first, I can just keep trying.
