How do u maintain absitance from ur drug ?

It's Important to have a plan on what ur going to do if ur offered a pill or ur doc. I found that out over the past month Ive been clean! I have a list, actually I wrote a book lol.
-stay away from people places and things that would cause me to use
-keep up with aftercare. I don't want to go n one day and tell my counselor I've used.
-have sober freinds
-get into positive hobbies so I'm reminded on what my so er life has to offer as opposed to my drug lifestyle offered nothing but pain and suffering and feeling of being alone.
-Stay away from alcohol it affects the same receptor in my brain that the pills destroyed.

I have plenty more but I don't want to bore everyone. What r urs?

a good recovery plan is the key! here r some more of mine.

-keep busy. boredom is a trigger of mine.
-make a list on what to do when i get cravings
-learn how to do deal with feelings/emotions that would cause me to want to use. (stress anxiety, etc)
-keep reminding myself that i want to help others in their addiction and to do that i need to be clean and sober.
-have a good support system
-tell myself its healtheir for me to live clean as to where lving  'high' was destroying my body and mind
-live a healthy lifestyle both mentally and physically
-replace the high i was getting with the pills with positive activities
-count the days ive been sober and know that i dont want to start back over.
-know how much hard work i put in to get my life back
-never take my sobriety for granted no matter how m any days ive been clean
-learn how to overcome the quilt and embarassment i have about being a drug addict and learn how to forgive myself for what i did when i was using so i dont go back to the pills to numb those feelings.

Play the tape all the way thru, not just the use but all the after affects having to tell my sponsor, counslor, family that I have relapsed the coming down the starting over( clean time) the whole kit and kaboodle. The other thing that I use alot is agreeing to not use today( the whole 24hr bit). Good post! Becca

And if you're a 12-stepper:

~read the Big-Book
~call your sponsor (daily)
~pray to your higher power (daily)
~work with other addicts & alcoholics
~work the 12-steps

But Ang, what you've outlined above is AWESOME. Congratulations on your 1-month of sobriety. I remember when you first got here, and boy what a huge change in your attitude & thinking. Good for you for spreading the word and talking about it with others.

Keep up the good work dude... one day at a time!
