The "Olden Days"...what's your memory

My sweet favorite little niece is here and I am taking pics of her with the digital camera...

So I started to explain to her about back "in the olden days" how we had to put film (she had no clue) in the camera and take the 24 or 32 pics....depending on the film....then drive it to walmart or wherever...then wait 3-7 days and go back to walmart to pick it up.

I explained all this to her and she just looked at me like I was dumb.... so funny how things have changed!!!

What do you guys remember that would be foreign to the kids in your life?

The niece I was talking about in the first post...her big sister called me one day about 6 years ago she was about 5 and she was like guess what JoJo and I said what? she says....  I am talking on a phone that has a cord... like it was a really big deal.... my sister said when they moved in the new house she found the old corded phone and put it upstairs for emergencies... my niece thought it was so neat!

Of course I remember my Mima had her rotatary phone until they no longer worked... we had to go get her one of those.... oh you know the kind like they used to have in hotels and they were always like brown or yellow....shaped like a rotary but had a keypad... oh I am babbling...but it was outdated...that's all I mean! LOL

My daughter is always reminding me of how old I am but I have to say that they still want to wear the Converse Chuck's and the G Nikes I always wore so I guess I am not that old. LOL

Mike is crying here looking at the .25 gas price. Why can't we just go back to those days. I remember .89 per gallon. I wonder if the days of $12.00 filler ups are gone forever??

When life was simple..you could let your kids play outside without worrying about them being kidnapped, or worse.  Someone mentioned above neighbors keeping an eye on each other's kids..now it seems we hardly know our neighbors...fathers playing baseball with their kids at the local parts.  Most of the time now they baseball diamonds are empty.  Fathers being fathers.

The Northwoods Inn is great.  We still go there every now and then. I love throwing the peanut shells on the floor. Does anyone from So. Cal remember the Japanese Village and Deer Park in Buena Park? Early 70's. Or the Lion Country Safari in Irvine where you drove your cars on this road and the wild animals were all around you coming up to your car and stuff? I think it closed in the early 80's.

And don't get me started on the Knott's Berry Farm chicken and boysenberry pie. Sometimes we drive out there just to have dinner. YUMMYLICIOUS!

The drive-in's were the best. We had one out here that had 6 movie screens so we would movie hop if we ran into friends that were seeing a different movie. I can remember sneaking into the drive-in in the trunk of a '76 Buick LeSabre with my sister driving and she purposely drove over every speed bump she could find and must've drove around the drive-in for a good 10 minutes with me and my friend in the trunk the whole time with the AM radio blaring so no one could hear us yelling. She thought she was so funny.

riding a bike w/o a helmet, playing outside all day in the neighborhood and your mother had no idea where you were, drinking from a water hose, swimming in the swimming hole, trick or treating alone all over town. sleep out in a tent. gas wars, yeah gas was .24 cents a gallon, penny candy and yeah I detassled corn too, babysitting for 50 cent an hour..car hops, drive in where a car load was $5.00. My first real job I was a car hop and made 50 cents an hour, had to ride my bike there after school and home after dark, and when I was promoted to waitress I made $1.00 boy did I think I was rich. Lol am I telling my age now or what...lol

Also: "It's Cal Worthington and his dog spot!" "If you want to buy a car.....go see Cal,
(then the rest of the song) Go see Cal, go see Cal, go see Cal"  But if you were a little kid you thought they said something else LOL

Oh and this just came to me the other day out of the blue "Pete Ellis Dodge, Long Beach Frwy, Firestone exit Southgate". (or was it Bellflower? hmmm)

guess im not done yet......cloth diapers and rubber pants.  Stabbing your brains when you would run the pin thru your hair so it would go thru all the layers of the diapers.  hanging the diapers out in the sun as it was supposed to kill any bacteria and the rubber pants would be so crunchy!!!!  Now all the old diapers make great rags!!!!!

oh god this is the worst one........my mother sewed all my clothes and would buy extra material and when she sewed a dress for her she made one for me out of the same material and i would have to wear mine when she wore hers.  Then the older ladies would pinch my cheeks and tell me i looked just like my mother.  Oh help i need therapy!!!!!!

Oh one more........flour saks that had material on them and when the flour saks were empty my mom and grandma would cut the material off and make hand towels for the kitchen.

Anyone remember getting bread bags in your winter boots in case they leaked.  Kept your feet dry!!!!
All our hats and scarves and mittens were homemade.  Buying them was out of the question
Finding the milkweed plants and getting the caterpillar(striped one) and putting it in the jar with a stick and some grass.  Watching the cocoon forever so it seemed and the minute you left out came the monarch.

I loved Elvira..Mistress of The Dark :) The movies were so cheesy. Except for my favorite...The Blob!

Also love Knott's. Yummy jelly. That Budweiser park sounds soo familiar. I wouldn't doubt it if we went there since my Dad practically kept Bud in business all by himself.

Loved the Archies (and the Archie comic books)

How about Josie and the Pussycats?

Virgo, you guys took awesome vacations! Wish we could have gone there. All we ever did  was go down to Rosarito Beach (in Baja) since we had a house down there. My brother and I used to hate it. Well, we loved the beach but that was about it. Of course when we were in our 20's we loved it. Ahhh, partying in TJ....there's nothing quite like it LOL
