you described pretty much everything I was thinking watching the show regarding this book.......You just put into words what I couldn't seem to pull out.......Thank you. I appreciate your thoughts about the book.
It was better than good.....it was great !!!
Thanks again for your opinion.
luv,
Nauty................
hey I actually have the book and have read it, I thought at first it might be believable but, I mean "The Law of Attraction" come on there are some things that you dont attract to yourself like cancer, I would like them to explain to me how someone can attract cancer, Its a joke I dont recommend it at all... so with that this is what I have decided...
1 -- The "Secret" does not tell any "secrets" about life. All this has been written about before, and better.
2 -- The so-called "law of attraction" in this book is only a justification for self-centeredness, self-orientation, and just plain selfishness. It's main focus is on "wishful thinking" of the childhood variety: "Please, Daddy, give me what I want." If you wish for something long enough and hard enough (and maybe make a promise or throw a tantrum) the universe will provide it for you.
3 -- The "wishful thinking" part appears to combine prayer with an imaginary friend. That friend, in this case, would be God, and prayer, in this case, would be attempts to change God's mind and get him to treat you as special while also, in many cases, suspending all the basic laws of the universe for your benefit.
I see a couple of things.
One is that Oprah was somehow duped into believing that this was (1) a good book with (2) new ideas and (3) based on something other than childhood pretending.
The other is that the only result of this "law of attraction" has been to give the author a pile of money for selling lots of books.
hope that was good enough for ya lol...

Thats seems to be the consensus of the readers.....this person was very smart. The translated biblical scripture and re-worded it in terms that most can understand. I wish I would have thought of that.
I don't think you can ever go wrong with scripture......can't argue with it (most of it) anyway.......smart woman......what the heck......i hear it's about 200 pages......so, I guess i'll read it.
gracias,
Nauty.........
It reminds me of the huge fanfare they made about the "Celestine Prophecy". I suppose it's a nice enough message though...and sometimes the simplest messages are the deepest.
Oprah here yesterday was about very over weight people...I have seen the show she did on the Secret. I agree, it seems a little strange to me but a lot of people are buying into it so there must be something to it.
I haven't ordered it because that kind of book will not hold my interest. If it's not about addiction or some true murder case I can't read it. LOL
I read the book, or tried! a few years ago. It is very short and the basic concept is you control your own destiny by positive thinking. Living you life in a way that facilitates your future......not exactly a secret or any big surprises!!
I would recommend reading the comments on Amazon or excerts that have been published in various articles you could find on the web.
Assuming you can determining certain people's thought processes' by reading their post (like here!) I will make a big assumption this book would have about the same impact on you as it did me, which wasn't much!
And I didn't mean that as an insult!! :)
I've heard of it but I've never read it. Apparently a lot of people are really into it.
