if your dr said oxys arent addictive you need a new dr
I know damn well oxycontin is addictive! Ultram? Not sure. I took Ultram for a while, 4 a day, and had no trouble getting off them when I realized they weren't helping my back pain. I did, however, get very addicted to hydrocodone way before that, and was taking 15-20 pills per day! Withdrawal was hell but WORTH IT. I have NO desire to ever take another narcotic painkiller and never will unless I'm dying or something! I am no longer a slave to anything and it feels GREAT. I am free! Good luck to all of you who give up the painkillers or other addictive drugs...it's all worth it in the long run...those drugs rule your life and nothing is worth that.
it is a shame..Big $$$ in pharmacy sales here.......Unfortunatley your friend will be listening to you before long..as you and i both know what she is taking is gonna rip her apart.....if she only knew what lies before her she would run with fear...

When it comes to addiction doctors are frequently wrong....There is a long history of that.
Sigmund Freud (Uber Coca 1884)recommended cocain for hysteria, stomach ailments, cachexia, asthma and....for treatment of alcohol and morphine habits.

Hi: How bad is rotator cuff surgery? A piece of cake compared to weaning off Ultram!!! I ended up in a sling for 6 weeks, then began physical therapy at 6 weeks. We began slowly to move the shoulder with shrugs and gentle massage. Now 6 weeks later, I am almost back to full movement. It hurts very much, its limiting and was a bit more complicated then expected. But being on this side of it I am glad that it is done. The only thing now is I cannot swim as before. I participated in Triathalons and I have been advised to not begin competitive swimming because of the shoulder. Bummer, but at least I can move it and it almost doesn't hurt anymore.

Hi: I was first put on Oxycontin for 2 weeks the max. dose 2pills 4xaday then switched to Ultram same dose for 2months, when it was apparent that I needed to taper to get off this stuff, I slowly took one pill away first at 2 week intervals then 1 week. Now I am at 1 pill each day and feel horrible until I can take it then horrible when it wears off. What a unbelieveable cycle to be in. Be careful with Ultram, it's dangerous. I hope you can find something else to manage the chronic pain you are in. I am not sure Ultram is the only answer. Thanks for your kind words, and I wish you well also.

hi, i was just wondering , how many did the doctor have you on a day? and how many do you take a day? i am asking this because i had a bad addiction to vicodin , i have been off of them for like 4 months, i know it was hell trying to get off of them. i finally did it and i owe alot of my recovery process to the people on this forum. i never had any one to talk to about this stuff until now. although i don't post alot , i still read the posts of others and it helps me.you should deffinatley stick around here they will help you too. i now take ultram and i am trying to taper alil everyother day i take just 2 then 4the next.so i wont become dependent on them too.. i wonder what happens when i don't get them anymore? if they decide to put me on something else ..then what?? i have chronic pain and have to take something along with the tylenol and naproxen. i hope you overcome this, you have to take it one day at a time. good luck to you. GOD bless ~michele~
It's okay to vent, sorry about your girlfriend. Most doctor's really do not understand the addiction part of these drugs. She's lucky to have you as I am lucky to have the support of my husband, couldn't have gone this far without it, way to hard.
Isn't this sad? I have a girlfriend who was in a severe car accident and she is prescribed Oxy's, and Roxi's for break thru pain. It is very obvious that she is addicted. However, her doctor informed her that if she takes them as prescribed....she will not become addicted. My friend believes the doctor!!!!!!!!! I can't even talk with her about it, all I can do is try to be an example and pray that some day she gets it. I just cannot believe that doctors are telling people stuff like this.
Sorry I could not be of help. I just wanted to vent on the subject.
I have no clue ,my doctors told me it was not as addictive (ultram), but that it was possible to become dependent on it . The insert that came from the drug company said you could be dependant on it as well.... I don't feel that i was in the dark at all. I have never heard about doctors say oxy was not addictive
I am gald you have some support to help you get of the meds ,I am sorry that you were not informed correctly by your doctors.Tapering is a good way to get off the meds go slowly it will give your body more time to adust back.
