Is there anyone here that is on disability from taking pain meds and pain?    If so, do you have a policy?  How are you affording to live without a job?

No, this is not a work injury.  I had broken my back as a teenager, now 45 years old.  I was going to hire an attorney for the SS to speed things up a bit.  I make a good salary and the plan I have pays 60% but not enough to live on.  I was told to take out mortgage insurance and that will cover my mortgage while I am out on disability.

Are you telling me you have been out for 2 years and still have not collected SS?  Whys is it taking so long?

A couple of years ago a doctor took me out of work due to my medication and I was approved for STD and never went for the LTD, it scrared me not being able to pay my bills so I went back to work.

Man!  I totally feel for you.  I am an RN and I am out on work comp.  I had state disability until work comp kicked in.  As a nurse I paid into a disability insurance plan (which I didn't even know that I had) which has been paying me since I've been off work for 2 years.  I know that with disability they go by what you've made for the past several months, average that out and pay you a percentage of what you made.  I thought it was pretty close to what I was making when I was working, but of course it is not exactly what you make working.

I am so sorry for you.  That would be so very hard when you are the sole provider.  Once you've been considered a percentage disabled, you can then apply for Social Security disablility (which takes FOREVER!!!).  They usually deny you then you have to appeal.  By the third appeal you go up in front of a judge who then makes the determination (that's what I am waiting for).  But, it doesn't even sound like you have gone out on disability leave yet.  Is this a work injury?

No, I have had a broken back years ago and have been on and off pain meds for years but I am thinking about going out on STD and then perhaps LTD but want to make sure I can afford it.  I have this availabile through my job and was wondering if anyone else did this.  I have REAL bad pain and take 4-7 OXY IR pd depending on level of pain.  My company does not allow you to take Pain Meds and work....I have never told them I am taking anything but may have to.  I may have to start leaving early or during the day to go lay down.  It just scraes me because I have a family and I am the sole provider.

I was on STD in the past for a few months but never went all the way
