I am unemployed as last week. I did heavy equipment manufacturing for a contractor of Caterpillar. It's just a fancy way of saying cheap, non-union labor for an historically strong labor union based corporation. Everyone else here has a much better sounding career. I think I am going to finish my Bachelor's, now that I have the time. If only I could figure out what I want to be when I grow up....
I'm an L&D nurse/Prenatal testing as well! I love my job...how about you? When it's a good outcome it's the greatest, when it's a poor outcome, beyond sad! I can honestly say that I enjoy going to work ALMOST every time! I think I am one of the nicer nurses because this is a specialty I always dreamed of getting into in high school! Also, having four children has made me more empathetic.....wonderful experience but quite painful!
That is a cool job! I hope you are one of the nice nurses, lol, because the nurse I had when I had my son was a nightmare!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I wasn't even a raging lunatic, either, lol!!
Labor and delivery nurse.
If anyone really goes down and read the 35th post (LOL) I am a translator the the European Union and I translate from home - mainly from English to Danish. What versatile group of people we are.
Take care
Minnie
Accounting for the past 10 or so years, now unemployed looking for a couple of part time jobs. I am going back to school to eventually be an RN.
Medical field injured on the job in Dec 2000. Never be able to work on a floor again. It sux
There is so many interesting people here to get to know! I was a paralegal for 14 years and then decided to get out of the legal field so I can do something that will make me happy the rest of my life and not worry about the money. Anyway, I am in my third year of interior design school and working towards my bachelors. I hope to work in an architecture firm one day. I am also a stay at home mother and take care of the house and my two dogs. I think it is great to see so many people from all walks of life that are so supportive and inspirational! Thanks! What a great topic! Lisa
Hairstylist, color specialist, make up artist,, and sometimes a go go dancer...not lately with the back issues..but when I was on pills I would go shake it to 80's music and new pop on the weekends and get paid for it..
In case anyone was wondering I work as an executive assistant / office manager for a large construction company. We do projects like Wal-Mart.
Own a restaurant/club with brother in Boston.
yeah- i think it will get worse- the 2006 vintage subprimes are 60% adjustable rate, lots of no-doc loans, plenty of interest only, and some have a 40 year amortization schedule. in other words, these loans were designed to be refinanced and they were built with smoke and mirrors
Now there products are not being offered so the homeowner is hosed- when the ARM reset hits, the interest rate will go up significantly. Subprime homeowners do not have tons of disposable income or options. Be prepared to see loads of foreclosed homes on the markets to drive down prices
Yeah- it could get real ugly
I work for a large computer company as an "escalation manager". I get involved in critical customer satisfaction issues related to parts issues...gets stressful at times and I can honestly say I love it..well..up until recently..the older I get (57) the less I want to deal with the stress. I get a lot of recognition for what I do and I'm respected by all of my colleagues and customers which I like. Generally I get involved after issues have passed through several different layers of escalation so
by the time it gets to me, it has to be fixed yesterday. Some issues take a few hours, others a few days. It's a 24/7 job and I'm on call every 3 weeks, though as the "lead" person, I can get called at any time.
Right now I'm on 2 weeks vacation and relaxing very nicely, thank you.
Jim
Right now
sorry i segued the thread!!!
then i should consider myself lucky.. i just extended my HLOC, at prime minus 1%... it's through my credit union.
you think it's going to get worse? i mean, it's all over the news, people are losing their homes left and right...
ah man... that is such a bummer.
thank you SO so much for the info, buddy...
if it makes you feel any better- my doctor cornered me for info- his daughter apparently had significant credit issues and couldnt buy a house. He was willing to co-sign the loan but that was still a no-go. A special loan was arranged at a high interest rate.
There will be some serious tough times ahead- the subprime folks are royally screwed
thx buddy.... i think i get it. so it's the lenders who basically are a mess... right? in "mj simpleton" terms?
i still don't get tho, while if they have a hard tangible asset they could literally TAKE (her home) and MAKE A PROFIT (which it all boils down to, right?) if she defaulted, why SOMEONE wouldn't want her $$...
but.. it's because in theory, she should be able to, right? but because all the lenders are "tied up" she can't then, right?
i think i get it.
so she's basically hosed then, huh?
obviously you could seize the asset and sell it- but it can be a huge pain in the butt that is not in demand these days
investors are steering clear of any loans with fleas- without them lending has come to a grinding halt
exactly
and she is hosed until liquidity returns
the asset backed market is in complete chaos- trading has significantly slowed down and wall street is loaded with high anxiety
now- you might ask- how does this affect your friend? when a HELOC is taken out the 1st thing the lender does is sell the loan to the secondary markets who then package that loan into a structured security. because this market is now in chaos, wall street cannot resell these packaged loans to investors. If your friend has a "spotty" credit history, that is enough of a reason why she cannot get a loan. it sounds pretty whacky since 6-8 short months ago a busboy could take out a 100% LTV loand for 600k (with an annual compensation of $33k)
times have changed
Hi! My mom taught special ed for years, and then switched to 4th grade. That's a selfless job, hun! I love kids, but could NEVER work with them all day, lol! Just my own.
I was a detective until Nov of last year. After all the surgeries, the Dr said I couldn't go back to police work. I loved it, I was in the field for about 10 years. I miss it horribly and am trying to find a new nitch in life. I was always very victim orientated in my job and really got into it "to help people". As cliche as that sounds. I did a lot of good, but wish I could have done more..
