Worried that I am addicted and big day tomorrow, no pills

I have been on opiates for just over a year now, maybe longer, they have been spaced out and my doctor keeps changing them on me, Vicodin, Vicodin ES, Fioricet w/ Codeine, pure codeine, and l as of late, Lortab. I have been on Lortab for a solid 3 months, and I take 1-2 pills a day, sometimes it is 4 if I have a bad day, well, 4 is rare.

I fell kind of odd posting in here, and I feel bad for the people that are on heavier opiates and are having real issues, mine seems very small compared to what I have read. Anyways, I had a severe neck and head injury a few years ago, mostly muscle damage to my upper neck, so stiff neck and, you guessed it, chronic non-stop tension hedaches with a random migraine. On top of that, the head injury gave me a rare form of epilepsy.

So, I take Soma, 2 250's twice a day for muscle stiffness and Klonopin and Keppra for epilepsy, then I have an opiate pain killer, normally. Opiates appear to be the only thing that lower the pain, other pain kilers do nothing, and been in the hospital for tylenol overdosing, luckily i recovered fast, but i an knock down 40 Ibuprofen with no affect, yet pure codeine (I had a script one for just codeine sulfate, no painkiller) worked perfect. It made the pain bearable, so my doctor kept me on opiates.

On my last visit he wasn't really watching stuff and sent me home without any painkiller scripts and gave me a lecture on all of the pills I was taking and how addictive they were (soma, klonopin, etc). Odd, considering he is the one that started me on all of them, when I called back, he decided I should be under the care of a pain management specialist, makes sense, but i agree so I see him in 2 days.

Now the fun part, I had my last half lortab about 12 hours ago (normal time), and I have an AWESOME job interview tomorrow, I need this job bad for my family, and it is highly, highly technical (financial network design i.e heavy duty geek stuff), a simple pause on a question could cause me to lose the offer. So, to cut to the chase, considering I normally take a Lortab every morning, my body actually wakes me up at 5:00 am to take it, will I have any withdrawals? What can I do to ease them? Any tips will work. perhaps I am worrying about nothing, who knows. that is what I am here to find out.

Oh, and I am highly use to lortab to where it doesn't affect my judgement, makes me more approachable and talkative, also helps me concentrate oddly. So, not worried about the Narcotic messing up my interview, lack of narcotic is my issue.

Just curious - did you get a "slug" at the ER this morning?  (Just kidding).  How did your interview go?

I would think the morphine or dilaudid would get you high, if you're not use to it.. It is so much stronger than what you are use to.  It might make you really sleepy and nod off, so if you have job interview, I woudl stay away from a shot of any opiate, but they may give you a script for lortabs or something like it.  Best wishes with your interview!

Thanks everyone, it seems as though withdrawal has set in, nothing bad, just sick to my stomach and can't sleep. My average dose was generally 1 in the morning then a half in the evening, so I think missing that half dose is what started it. So, definite addiction, no idea how bad it will be, however, coffee might work, it does tend to induce small seizures but nothing I am not use to. The sickness is weird, like a flu, but purely stomach. I don't have any other symptoms "so far". Of course, it is 3:00 A.M, so I am going to be massively tired and run down.

As far as my other medications, I have everything, the soma, klonopin, keppra. I know the klonopin is highly addicting, I went through withdrawal for a month a while ago during a screw up at the pharmacy and my doctor out of vacation. Since it is an abused drug, well, no one wants to help, even tried the E.R. That was hell, when my doctor did get back he got me right back on it, but from day 1 to day 30 I had no alleviation from withdrawals, i hear it can take 6 months fr your symptoms to ease up. My doctor has since written the prescriptions so that every bottle of Klonopin and Keppra says, take 1 three times a day for epilepsy. Now, even if I am a day late on getting a new script and seeing him, the pharmacy just gives me some. I am looking for a new doctor, it is strange that he has been seeing me for well over a year and I am one of his "special" patients, as in, this is the first time he has ever seen anything like it before. He has lunch with other doctors and talks about my condition, mostly the temporal lobe epilepsy. Then he just "forgets" my routine, it was like he had the wrong chart or something.

Right before I saw him, which was a few days ago, I was on an increased dosage, about 3 a day, just for a week. I had "missed" a few stairs and broke my little toe, and did something nasty to my foot. So, I didn't get a chance to really minimize my use before I ran out, I only had a few days warning, well, I minimized it back down to 1 1/2, which didn't affect me. A real taper would have been better, or a change of medications. I think I would be fine if i even had Soma compound, I went from Vicodin to Fioricet to Vicodin ES then to a small dose of codeine sulfate with no reactions, and I would think Vicodin ES to codeine would cause something, so maybe it is just simply opiate stimulation, regardless of the amount that works. I have to say Fioricet is the best for me with the muscle damage, since it works as a relaxer also.  My wife is a massage/physical therapist, who gave up even trying to work on my neck, she just said, it doesn't even feel like a muscle, and after a 2 hour massage, I am back in pain 10 minutes later. The fioricet loosens it up though, yet it really drags me down and makes me lose motivation to do anything, so got off that.

I do agree that my body was telling me something, we couldn't figure out why i was waking up so early, except that a few months ago I was working remotely on a project in Sydney from the sates and well, I would be up at 4:00 A.M to get briefed for the day before they went to sleep. When I woke up, I took a vicodin. So that could have started it, yet, when I do wake up, I feel like someone just beat me down with a bat, I can barely get out of bed, back hurts, neck hurts, head is throbbing. So I wasn't sure if it was just the need for an opiate or the pain that was waking me up, every so often I would just fall right back to sleep after I took the rest of my cocktail of meds.

SO, honestly, the most lortab I ever took in one day was 4, and 4 was too much, it just made me sick, average dose was 1 1/2, sometimes 2, sometimes, rarely, 3. As far as other pain killers, I do have toradol (just super motrin), I also take tylenol and asprin throughout the day, so my normal day is wake up, take a lortab, a toradol, 2 Tylenol then 2 asprin, and repeat every 4 hours, minus the lortab. So, the odd thing here is, other painkillers just don't work except in a very risky cocktail, and that is very minimal relief. As I said, i went through an whole bottle of extra strength tylenol in a day once, didn't even realize I was taking so much.

It is sad that the main medication that works is such a hassle, and I  have to say it is pretty stressful, I am in my late 20's, almost 30, and I feel like an 80 year old. Luckily I go into pain management tomorrow, so just gotta make it through today. well, I have to wait 7 hours, make it an hour then I can curl up until tomorrow. I think I should have gone pain management to begin with but, normally an independent contractor o I need private insurance, and well, no one will touch me due to my conditions, I am just uninsurable. This is why this job is so important, it has the feel of contracting in the sense that I am constantly rebuilding and redesigning this huge trading network, AND it is full-time, which means group policy. My wife is also due in 2 months, so I really need something stable. Contracts are easy, full-time is hard, these people pick you apart, have you drawn and quartered, set on fire, jump on all the pieces, put you back to together, do it a few more times then see if your stil sane, then you get hired... of course in the field I am in, 1 oops can cost a LOT of money.

So, I think the stress of the entire situation, job and all, along with the perfect timing of running out of opiates is just adding more to it, might be more psychological. Well, definite withdrawals, but might not be as bad as I suspect, I might just be making them worse by worrying.

As far as coffee, i will hit that, just half-caf, and I can temporally increase my klonopin, if it will even affect me. I don't know if I can take extra soma, I already take 4 a day, 2 when i wake up and 2 in the evening, I hear the max is 4. I took my dose at 3:00 when I woke up, normally I take it at 6:30. I just don't know enough about the dosages, you nearly kill yourself with just tylenol on accident, you tend to watch the labels and warnings n everything.

So hopefully all works out, but any advice works, I take 1mg klonopin 3 times a day, if increasing it will help, give me an idea of where I can safely take the dose to, I am highly use to benzos, and most just don't work.

Ok, one thought, it is 5:00 A.M, what about going into the the E.R for my headache and getting a slug of morphine or dilaudid? it should be warn off by the time f my meeting.  I know it sounds weirds, but just going over options. I will follow up as I get into pain management.

If your body is waking you up at five am for your dose, then you are already having the first sign of withdrawal.I find it hard to believe you only take as few as you say, are you sure you are minimizing a bit . We are hear to help not to judge.

QuantumC, there is a good chance that you will go threw some withdrawal. Is the lortab the only thing you have run out of .klonopin has to be tapered that's why i ask. You will most likely have body aches , chills , loss of appetite ,diarrhea RLS . The klonopin might help a bit . You can take some thing for the diarrrhea . Motrin for the aches but ya probably wont be feeling the best.

I am sure you will make it thru your interview . good luck Keep us posted.

Welcome!  I would be surprised, if you have been taking the Lortab really regularly, if you feel normal tomorrow.  I really hope that you do but, boy, in my experience, you may not be feeling too chipper by morning.  However, everyone is different, and you may be okay.  I'd get a little extra coffee or something.  I was taking a bit more than you are, but not by much, and my prediction is that you will be moving kind of slowly - especially if you are used to the pill first thing in the a.m.  It sounds like you can get to the Dr. pretty quickly, so you'll be okay soon, but I was surprised at how profound the w/d's were, and I didn't think I had a really heavy habit.  Bad timing for the interview!!  Knock on wood, though you may be just fine!  Let us know how it goes!  Good Luck to you!
