roxy addict stepdaughter

how can I help a intelligent 23 year old mother of 2 see that she is yelling to much at her child. she spends most of her time sleeping or watching tv and does next to nothing to assist her daughter with her 5 year old life. if anyone says anything critizing her she threatens to leave the state and nobody will see her kids again.yet she always needs gas and rent money due to circumstances seemingly beyond her control. how can anyone help these children who did not ask to be brought into this situation under the mothers threat of isolation. i suspect she uses roxys almost every day by her super chilled behavior when she comes out of the bathroom with boyfriend in tow. also much hacking up flem and spitting like a ball player with chewing tobacco. hostility towards child said to be discipline. what can anyone do to help this child and mother?

I agree with Sara about giving her money...If in fact shes using chances are thats what the money is being used for.

As far as the child goes...I would make a call to CPS...The most important thing is the safety and well being of the child.

Yeah, the hacking and spitting makes me suspect that she's snorting the roxi's. I've never snorted pills, but have see people do it and I've seen people hack and spit afterwords.

You arent giving her gas money or rent money are you?  If you are i would be going to the gas station with her.....Get someone involved in this situation.  That child needs to be safe.   Sounds like they are doing something in the bathroom if she is coming out hacking and spitting.          sara

You really only have a couple of choices. The first is a family intervention and try to get her into rehab. It seems as though this probably wouldn't work. The other is to contact Children and Family Services if you suspect even a sliver of child abuse. It doesn't have to be physical. If she's in active addiction, the children are in danger. I read where you mentioned her and her BF. Is the father in the picture? He could possibly get custody, which at that point might make things easier.
