loved Skynyrd...saw them twice in the 70s..opened for Uriah Heep (could left after Skynyrd but my girlfriend was a Uriaha Heep nut..and then a few months later they opened for the Who in San Francisco...still shaking from that one.

And then...there's Tower of Power...whoo boy

re: outatown...yep...and Mel Tillis, and may others...David Allen's Coe's classic "you never even call me by my name" is great.  Today's country music is just too flashy..hard to tell country from today's rock..Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash..had the pleasure of seeing Waylon one time...quiet a show.

When i listen to country its the old stuff, the new stuff is all copy cat nothing originol, like a lot of the new rock. I stick with 70s to realy 80s. Cocain blues by Johnny Cash is the kida counrty im talking bout. AND TANYNA TUCKER IS STILL VERY HOT!!!

Personally, I prefer what they'd call "Classic Country" from the era in which one of the stations local to where I lived at the time San Francisco, switched from talk to country, round 1974.  In 1977  I moved to Colorado Springs and they had a DJ from Texas named "Tex Lively" who sounded about 80 years old, but man did he play some great music.
got me turned on to Bob Wills, Johnny Gimble an many others

I don't know Totsie...I use to drive my apartment neighbors nuts on days when I was cleaning...I'd play bluegrass, then jazz, then Grateful Dead, then Clapton, then classical (Beethoven's 7th my favorite) Strauss waltzes, Glenn Miller, Louis Armstrong...then back to the Grateful Dead..I just love music.

listening to some Jerry Garcia Band from 1975 "Catfish John" my favorite Garcia Band tune...the picture of hanging around the river as a kid with ol' catfish John in my mind is so cool....

"Mama said, don't go near that river
don't be hanging around
ol' Catfish John
Come the morning I'd always be there

walking in his footsteps in the sweet delta dawn"
take me back to another mornin'
to a time so long ago
Where the sweet mangnolia blossoms
cotton fields, as white as snow..

Catfish John, was a river hobo
lived and died by the river's bend
Looking back, I still remember...I was proud to be his friend.''

(likely spectacular guitar solo)

Born a slave in the town of Vicksburg
traded for a chestnut mare
Lord he never spoke in anger
though his load, was hard to bear..
