suboxone study

I have tried to quit taking hydrocone several times and in fact did suceed a couple of times.  I thought i just had the flu.  Now I know it was withdrawals.
To begin with about 6 months ago i was having lots of pain in my knee, hands and back from arthritis.  Tylenol didn't help and i am unable to take ibrprophen because of stomach surgery i had 4 years ago.  So, over the past 6 mos. i have started taking more and more.  I told my Dr. exactly what was going on, she recommended tapering down and getting off of them that way.  That didn't work for me.   I called another Dr. in town who she did mention to me also.
He is able to dispense suboxone.  The nurse i talked to there mentioned they had an on going study and maybe i would qualify for that program.  I went right over and sat down with her and answered her questions.  She said the middle of Sept. was as soon as they could get me in.  even if i wasn't going into the study, it would take that long to see the Dr.  She told me she could tell that I was not a flake and she could push me ahead to sept. 10.  and if they have any no shows she would call me.  So, that thrilled me. She said that happens quite often.  No call no show no nothing.  I said call me i will be there in 30 min or less.  I am so excited about this.  Do any of you know about this pill suboxone and how it makes a person feel??  I just hope it does what it is suppose to do for me.
I know one thing after going through this addiction I have much more compassion and sympathy for everyone who has this problem.
Here i was ready to pay or try and get the insurance to pay, i don't think that would even be a problem and this nurse says it is all free.  What a blessing!
I am so thankful i made that phone call.  Good wishes to all of you fighting this terrible battle. Thanks for any info you can give me on suboxone.  TJack

I was on Subutex after being on a steady and daily dose of percocet (200mg and up) for over 6 months.  I started at 16 mg, 12 the next day, then 8, then 6, then 4, then 2 for a fe days, then 1 for a few days, then .5 for a few, then .25 for 5 thsn I jumped off.  I was on it for under 21 days and I have little to no withdrawals.
I had a few sweats and chills respectively but nothing I couldn't handle and nothing that made me want to use the clonidine prescription my dr wrote me.  I drank lotso f water and forced myself to get outside.  It lasted a day, maybe 1 and a half days at most.
If done quickly and correctly it's a lifesaver.  It certainly saved me.  Butm if you don't have a plan you will be free to take pills again and the cycle begins.

I just recently got on suboxone. I was doing 25-30 10 mg hydros a day. The doc started me on  two 8mg sub a day. So the first day I took the whole pill as soon as I could not take my wirhdrawls anymore. ( that was about 5-6 hours last dose of hydros). The suboxone is a pill that you let dissolve under your tongue. I let the pill dissolve  and it took about 30-45 mins and I felt great. I wouldnt say that I felt normal but I felt very good. I did feel a lil  speedy or racey like FLaddict said but I felt 100 times better then the WDs. I took that first pill around 4pm and i felt pretty good all day. I woke up for work the next morning at 3am and I still felt pretty good. I waited till 4am and took another full pill. This time the pill mad me feel a lil sick  and alot more speedy. I went and grab some breakfast and the sick feeling went away. On my next dose I broke the pill in half wich made it a 4mg and that seemed to help me out alot. So now I take 8mg total a day. I guess ill do the 8mg aday till i go back to the doc at the end of the week and talk to him about it. Ill probly ask him for the maintance program wich is 2mg pills and try to just take 2 of those a day.  After listening to what people say about suboxonr WDs I want to be off it in under a month if possible.

It has almost been a  solid week for me now and I have not touched any hydros nor do I  have the urge too. So Suboxone has real helped me out alot. I figure just in that week alone it will save me alost $300 for pills I have not done.

hope this made sense and helped some..... Im not  real good at writing=)

What about chlondine?  It is a blood pressure med but I have read here so many times that it helps with withdrawals.

In your opinion what dose of sub should a person start on and how rapidly go down from there?  I will at least go into this thing with some knowledge.

Listen to FLaddict, especially regarding the study. Always look at the motivations of the people giving you advice. I'm a lawyer and deal with drug issues at work all the time (you wouldn't believe me if I told you). Basically, you're a product either to the vicodin drug companies or the suboxone doctors. And vicodin is much less powerful than some of the other opiates (there aren't enough vicodin in florida to get me high). Please don't take that wrong. Withdrawals suck my friend no matter what the drug. Try a taper, have a trusted friend control your pills so you don't cheat and then take 5 days off and you'll be normal again. There is hope.

I am not saying you cannot use it as a detox tool for a few weeks.. I just wouldn't voluteer to be a guinea pig for docs who don't know what they are doing.. its only been approved for a few years. Who knows how long and at what dose they would have you on it.. I don't want to sound negative but there is a lot of incorrect info out there about Suboxone and alot of myths that we believe.. I just want people to have all the info b4 making that jump..

Oh no.  I had read so many positive things about suboxone and now i feel a bit lost again.  I just know i cannot do that cold turkey thing again.   It was like the worst flu I ever had.  I just want my old normal self back.  Thank you all for taking the time to post info.

Thanks for the advice!! I didn't know that over a certain mg it could speed you up. I am going to keep a close eye on her.

No not really.. it can in the first couple days give you periods of that feeling in small doses.. But its more of a dirty feeling.. not a warm fuzzy one. Because it is a partial agonist.. it has a ceiling effect that cuts off the euphoria and also the possiblity of more respritory depression if you take more than she is supposed to.. Lower doses felt better to most people.. high doses of really over 8mgs make people feel speedy or racing and sweaty..My suggestion is to get her past the 3-4 day detox mark and taper down to the lowest dose possible..

Hi. I was wondering...does suboxone give you the same "feeling", or that "euphoria" that the painpills do? I am asking because some things I have read on it, people say it does give euphoria, and other things I've read says it doesnt...I'm just curious, I guess. I have been clean since Dec, and went through it cold turkey, and wish I had known more about it then, but my friend is about to go through w/d and is looking into suboxone, and I'm just worried because she, more than anyone I've ever met on these forums, is OBSESSED with the euphoria feeling, and I'm scared she'll be trading from one addiction to another. And when I say obsessed, I mean it. All she talks about is the high she gets, she used to call me and go on and on about how good she was feeling...I'll leave it at that before I sound nuts, lol. Anyways, and info would be appreciated!

I personally would not sign up for a "Study" with suboxone... many people out there are getting put on doses that are too high by there docs and they are not tapering off fast enough or jumping off at a low enough dose.. docs are really still learning about this drug and its effects after its taken. Many people have withdraw after taking it..It is really only the "miracle drug" they say it is for the first week or two then you are just becomeing dependent on the Sub itself..

I posted a Sub FAQ a few weeks ago that was written by a patient that I found right on the money since I also took Sub.. YOu can do a search for it..

Be extremely careful with suboxone. It's worse than lortab/vicodin ever could be in my opinion. It's known as methadone-lite and don't be fooled. You must withdraw from that and it's worse. Think and read before you commit. Just an idea
