Feeling like I am about out of the woods, thought I was the only one that thought I would never recover. It has been a long battle but is doable. Like I heard so many times here, if you just hang in there you too WILL recover completely.
Saw this in a UK newspaper article, this is only a clip from it. They obviously don't know about MedHelp, right here is where I got most of my support.
It reads;
"************ is, as far as i know right now, the only place you can go for help with tapering, for legitimate help", Brainard said. "The Forum is really well managed, it's a peer support group where everything is transparent, out in the open."
The members by and large tout the benifits of the Ashton Manual for benzo tapering developed by Dr. Heather Ashton who worked in the clinical pharmacology unit at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, U.K. By the early 1980s, however word got out that she was having success helping individuals come off benzodiazapines.
For those who had weaned themselves off the medication, 96 percent reported they continued to experience withdrawal symptoms despite no longer taking the drugs. For those in whom the symptoms eventually disappeared, it took an average of 14 months. Another 40 percent could not answer the question, because their symptoms had not yet subsided.
The sample is certainly not a statistically valid representation of all benzodiazapine patients. But, there is little other data to reliably measure how many patients face this protracted withdrawal after months free of the drugs. But Pittman said such patients often get little support from the medical system in tapering off the medications or dealing with the protracted withdrawal.
"We really don't have other things to offer them," she said. They're really on their own in so many ways.
End of Story.
When I read this my first thought was of the Nurse Practitioner that worked at my Doctors office who told me, "why taper for so long? We get people off benzos in a week at the hospital". I thought, yeah right, how many of them fail and how many other horrible drugs do you give them?
The system is broken. Be strong, put your faith in God and ask Jesus Christ to help you get through ti. He will provide all of your needs when man will let you down.
I am certain that Jesus brought me to all of these caring people here at MedHelp who helped me through the worst of it. So many I can't possibly thank them all but I'd like to try. There was AtTheBeach, Gnarly, Crikett, Jade, Krissy, CRSeaside, Luvdolphins, Lilly, Sarbie, Lulu and of course IBKlean who I never got a chance to really thank. Not knowing what the future holds I wish I would have tried harder to let her know how much good she did when she was here. I know I missed people but thanks to all of you that are here helping people day in and day out. AtThebeach and Crikett, helped me above and beyond the call of duty, they were there when I was at the bottom. oh,, and Gnarly always had some words of wisdom. We go through life and don't always know who the Lord sends us and how much good they do for total strangers. So again, Thank You and thanks to those I forgot to mention. I am eternally in your debt. May Our Heavenly Father Bless and touch each and every one of you here on this board.
