3-4 mg clonazepam for 17 yrs

How will I cope with tapering off of 3-4 mg of klonopin after being prescribed the drug for 17 yrs? How long do you think it will take? I'm anxious to get it out of my system but also scared of the withdrawals.

I am 80 days off Valium after 14 years. Valium is a benzo as like klonipin. I stopped cold turkey under dr care at a inpatient hospital. Never stop without Dr care. It is very dangerous. Most people do a slow taper which is the recommended way to go under dr supervision. I had to have alternative IV medicine because stopping cold turkey can kill you. A slow taper is safer. Speak to a Dr who understands what you will be going through. Most medical drs do not have training to help deal with it. They think they do but most do not have a clue. Give your self 30 - 90 days to recover. It can take up to 90 days for you to test clean after stopping. Prepare your self first. Make sure you have a good support system. I found several herbs that are not addicting that can help with benzo withdrawals. Going to NA meetings will help a lot. It is free a safe place to be they have meetings all over. You may find someone who has already recovered who can help. Most of all try to keep positive. Know that you can do this you will recover. It will not be easy but its worth it.

Hello! I just wanted to ask are you tapering off under a Drs. care? I have been on this particular drug, but not for that long, and experienced w/d from it. Please don't do this on your own, it can be dangerous. Klonopin is one of the long acting benzos, so it takes longer to get out of your system. Withdrawal is scary to face, but if you are ready you can do it. You have support here, people with more long term benzo use will probably come in to give more answers. Don't give in to the fear, it is what will prevent you from getting through this. Keep us posted. XO. Carrie
