30 weeks pregnant and taking Norco

I am 30 weeks pregnant and have been taking norco through my whole pregnancy. I originally was taking 10mg norco for back pain. Pretty soon i built up a tolerance and now im taking two 10mg hydrocodone/norco about twice a day. At first it was prescribed by a doctor before i was pregnant, and then pretty soon couldn't afford my insurance and now i'm not getting them prescribed anymore. I get them now from family to help me out with pain. I've already told my doctor before that i had a prescription for them when i got a tooth pulled which was true, but he doesn't know that I ran out of them now. My biggest fear is me having my baby and it still being in my system or his system and/or having NAS, and if so, can CPS take my son away? I'm scared and seem to always need the norco for pain because of my back. I take them all the time and my newest prescription bottle is a couple weeks old. If i still have the prescription bottle or they see that i was once prescribed norco, can they still take my son away??? I don't want to loose my son. I just don't have a medical doctor anymore and medicaid will only pay for doctors or visits related to my pregnancy and nothing else. I would continue talking to my OB about it but his bedside manner is horrible and he is so rude. I don't like him and he has no compassion at all. He is just an *** and i don't feel comfortable talking to him about anything anymore. I just don't know what to do and am worried about not only stopping the norco, but at the same time the effects it may be having on my son and the fear of having him taken away. Someone please help!!! All advice is much appreciated. Thanks- Cassie

I agree that in your situation honesty is going to be your best bet. Let your OB know what is going on. Don't stop cold turkey. It could harm your baby. Just be truthful and your dr. will help you. Take care!

You need to get off those drugs or you will lose your child to cps if the baby is born addicted. You have to talk to your doctor and tell him the truth, to get help on quitting, do not just quit, it could be harmful to the both of you. Tell doctor immediately please. He can give you the details, and don't be afraid to tell, and get help. Best wishes to you and the baby.

Hi you really need to talk to your doctor. It could be dangerous for the baby to cold turkey the norco. The baby will be in withdrawal if you do. I don't think they will take the baby. You need to get the doctor on board with this though, best wishes.

OH, and another thing, if i do need to stop cold turkey to keep him from being taken away, how long will it take of me being off of the norco till it would be out of his system before he is born. Does it take the same amount of time to get out of his system as it would mine? How long of me being off of Norco till he wouldn't be affected from withdrawls or NAS anymore? I'm so lost right now. I don't know what to do.......
