HI everyone this is my first post so here it goes. Ive been on norco 10/35 for 4 years and I was down to 3 a day for a few weeks. I went to a new pain dr and to get me off the norco i was put on methadone 3 .05 pills a day to taper down for a month and then i would be off them. Please do not use Methadone. I used it for 8 months. And it messed me up. I've been off it now 27 days and I'm still not myself. I feel ALOT better than I did, but I still have pain and I'm very tired alot of the time. My energy just runs out and its like if I don't lay down I feel like I'm going to pass out.  Methadone stays in your system longer than any other drug which makes it hell to get off of. If I had known what I was doing to my body and brain I would have never taken the first one. It will be hard to get off the pain pill you are taking now, but I assure you, if you go on Methadone, you will wish you hadn't.

Methadone should only be used as a short term solution. In other words, take 1-2 ten mg methadone pills a day, after you're in withdrawal, for 5 days max. This will get you through the worst of the norco w/d, and not be enough to get you addicted to methadone nor cause you to have methadone w/d's.

After that, and honestly the first few days are definitely the worst of the w/d's, then you just hve to use your willpower, na meetings, posting here, and staying away from norco or people that abuse.

It's really not that hard if you follow my directions to the letter. I've done it, and I know it works. To me, especially after having gone through w/d's several times w/nothing to help the pain of w/d's, methadone was a God-send!

However, if you take the methadone for a longer period of time, or take more per day than 20 mg's, then you are setting yourself up for a real bad scene. W/d's from methadone are hell. Don't trade one addiction for the other.

I've heard the same about sub, but have never taken it so I couldn't advise you on that matter.

Methadone, if used like I described above, can really make the difference in whether you are sucessful in quitting the norco's. Try just one 10 mg pill a day for three days, then stop altogether. See how you feel. If you're really still in a lot of pain, try one more for one more day. However, I wouldn't go past 5 days of methadone use...just to be safe.

Good luck and let us know what you choose and how it works!

Stay away from methodone please I heard a lot of horrible things just like sub now I'm on sub and I can only say good things so far knock on wood lol, but just like Lisa said you should try to do it on your own then try sub if you are not able to do it.

Please take the advice Lisa is giving you about methodone.Stop taking it,you will end up regretting it so much. The w/ds from methodone are horrible.I was up to 20 7.5 vicodin a day before the methodone. My daily dose of methodone was 30 mgs.The w/ds from the pills was hard. The w/ds from the methodone were torture.Lisa is right you should make an honest attempt to free yourself from the pills first without using anything. However if you find that you are not able to go that route, please STAY AWAY FROM THE METHODONE.Peace.

please don't do either..get off the methadone while you can..seriously..You can get off the Norco without that..Before you try suboxone I think you should have tried a good handful of honest attempts to get off them first..without the use of another drug..Thanks for reading my post..Please don't do it..especially methadone..a month is WAY TOO long.and you will have worse withdrawald then going cold turkey off what your doing already..trust me..

I also wanted to say that methadone is also a pain pill.. so if you wanted to break away from the pain pills all together... then maybe suboxone would be the best choice.. it really does work if done properly..

Gosh, I dont know.. I abused methadone also along with oxycodones.. Suboxone I felt was my best option after doing A LOT of reading and asking questions.. The best thing to do is ask your doctor and the both of you can find the best treatment that will work the best.. Good luck..
