Sounds like u need to do what the doctors say..some surgery involving nerves and stuff require you to be relaxed so that u can heal...if u r in excruciating pain then this is not possible...you know the drill..be cautious and careful when u go home with them and have your loved one give them to you at the prescribed dose if you feel u may overdo on them.....it sux to have all of this come up right after u got clean....i am facing recommendations of a second sinus surgery and a hysterectomy right now....it is not an emergency tho and i have chosen to put it off...my tolerence is so high i would not get relief anyway...u will do ok...post for support and keep us updated
I am definitely going to try to limit my use narcotics, but have been told it may be hard not to use at all. My Dr's are very well aware of my addiction issues and are very willing to help. I also didn't have a mental problem stopping after my hip replacement a few months ago- it was the physical w/d's that still got me. That's the H*LL I want to avoid. I have been told that no amount of reg tylenol, ibu, NSAID, etc.. will help for the first 2 weeks, but I will have a cocktail that will contain only a limited amount of narcotic as opposed to the regular narc/ NSAID combo most people receive.. I really feel in my heart of hearts that I have a decent control of the mental aspect of addiction, but as we all know, that can easily change. I do go to my weekly aftercare therapy which helps TREMENDOUSLY, and have an amazing support system at home. But even tho I feel as tho I can tackle this and win, there's that little voice who scares me by reminding me I have a higher chance to relapse since I have before. Maybe while the dr's are in my head moving stuff around, i can have them remove the voices too!
ask yopur docter about suboxone used for getting addicts off painkillers it isn't NEAR:LY as addictive aat the same time it's only really used for moderate pain but you could easily be on it for 6 monthes and quit i was on it 2 years and quit alot easier than heroin ALOT easier and i was on heroin for a long enough time. ask your docter about suboxone you CAN'T get high off it if yuou ever abused opiates can't overdose or even feel good taking more than your suppose to so really look into SUBOXONE ( buprenorphine*?) ... good luck - J Dubz
if you really have a problem with abusing narcotic opiate based pain medications...then you suck it up and don't take narcotic pain meds for the pain. I know many people who don't have a problem with abuse but still refuse to take narc pain meds. Thats really the best advice I can give someone who has abuse issues with opiates. It can be done it jus takes a strong willed person...you have kids so it might be easier for you to do....you could use them for inspiration....I know people who have had hip replacements, and because they have abuse issues, they wont even touch pain meds accept for like tylenol or ibuprofen...they suck it up...and thats what you should do...if not for you then for your kids. Its not worth getting caught up in hell again....I think you'll agree....well good luck and I wish the best for you....Peace and love!

I am sorry for this. I know it is hard, but meds are there for a reason, can they give you non-narcotic meds?
