Adderol, Problem or Benefit?

Hello! Just a question concerning my usage of adderol.

I am 21 yrs old and am a college student and an owner of a silk screening business (believe it or not). I am just concerned if my usage of adderol may lead to an addiction. I AM perscribed this medication.

I use adderol(20 mg time released ORAL) only monday-thursday, sometimes friday based on my schedule. I will take one in the morning, and eat breakfast, then do some personal things untill it begins to work. Once it starts working I get everything finished on time throughout the day, and actually get more done than intended on some occasions. When im in class, I take the best notes i have ever taken.  Based on the length I can feel its effects, I may also take one in the afternoon, but atleast 8-9 hours before bed, since one of my classes is at 7pm. I will wait later in the afternoon to take one if I have more work to complete throughout the night (easier to get more done without room mate distractions). I have gotten used to the loss of appetite side effect and have adjusted accordingly.  Durring summer or breaks, I rarely use it at all and attempt to complete my tasks on time.

My weekly lifestlye also includes going to the bar. I go on thursdays and only take one in the morning.

My main concern is, I feel that I cant complete this many tasks without it. Adderol seems to work wonders with my school work, and the success of my business. I am more organized, clean, and even more precise with my business work. Will taking this drug this way with my lifestyle, throughout the semester, lead to an addiction? or is it already becomming a problem?

Last year, my GPA without it was a 0.9 and last semester with it was a 3.1.

Please address any concerns that may help me out with my question!

Much appreciated!

It isn't supposed to be addictive  to ADD patients but that doesn't mean much. Xanax and methadone wern't supposed to be addictive either. I think the reaction the poster gets from the adderal shows it's getting her (him) high and also making studying easier which is how a lot of profesionals get started with drug addiction, taking speed (in whatever form), in college.

I have been on this drug and maxed out on dexedrine and have not found it addictive. It isn't supposed to be addictive to ADD patients unless abused. I am an addict-poly addicted and I would notice any buzz going on.

Are u diagnosed with ADD?  if u are the medicine would serve to slow u down verses speed u up...my girlfriend is on it and she gets speedy off of it but loves it cos she gets so much done...if she had true add she would not feel this speedy effect.....everyone would be more motivated with an amphetamine everty morning!  if they r not add..if they r it will simply focus there thought and they dont get the speed effect as it has an opposite effect on people who do not need the medication

releases bu11loads of dopamine..depression usually bad if u quit...u seem to go without it ok...playing with fire tho..be safe

No drug is entirely safe. Whether its for diabetes or ADHD. Personally I never would have made it thru college without it. Your own gpa clearly demonstrates that. I am many years older then you but the same still applys for me. Addiction is always about secrets. If you can keep your md informed you'll be alright. this drug is pure speed . the idea is that is supposed to calm you down or help you focus and for you it sounds like it makes you high and feel more efficent. It doesn't sound like a good ideas to keep taking it and I hope you quit before you get too hooked. all the best

i would have to agree with the above post, yeah it helps everyone accomplish soo many more task and school work than without it, but no enough to deal with the addiction youll soon come to face if you dont address the issue immediately. youre not on an extremely high dose and not abusing it badly or anything, but adderall, which is four amphetamine salts combined has a reason for being a schedule 2 narcotic. like previously stated, it is pretty much prescribed speed, and for ppl with severe narcolepsy or add/adhd it can be very effective in helping them focus, concentrate, and accomplish simple tasks taht left unaddressed can be extremely hard to do, but most college students or in your case take it for its stimulant effects to help get more done and too basically push the envelope as much as you can.it seems harmless for a while, maybe even months, but the addiction will grab a hold of you and wont let up, it always wins, youll lose everything, and msot important control over your life. it consumes you. i was heavily addicted for over two years to snorting oxycontin and/or heroin, along with xanax, any other benzo, or sleeping pills. basically any pill i could find a way to snort i would take it. i got help, detoxed, and went to treatment. iw as on a suboxone treatment plan for 8 months, but then i severely broke and separated my wrist which ended up leaving me in the vicious cycle of addiction all over again. i addressed the problem and its been a little over 5 months and have been going to a daily methadone clinic and its been one of the best decisions i could have made in my life. but a couple of months ago, i saw a new therapist and he found that i had mild to severe adhd, all my life my gf's or friends/family always joked that i had it but nothing was done. i should have immediately at first explained to the therapist my addictive past and personality, but instead i didnt say a thing and ended up on concerta(time release ritalin). a couple of years prior to my addiction to opiates i went througha severe cocaine habit, but i stopped all together and it was fairly easy, i had cravings but other than that i just forgot about it, but now after having the therapist try a bunch if different meds, just cuz i said iw as still having problems and embezzling my problems exaggerating as much as possible. they had me try adderall, adderall XR, Focalin XR, Vyvanse. i definitely dont have bad add/adhd, or even think i have it at all becauase all the stimulants he treid, especially the adderall i felt the extreme stimulation, euphoria, and all the other effects recreational users look for instead of the real pharmaceutical effects taht actually help children and adults with add. so i basically switched from one addiction to another, it was extremely sad for me, being that yesterday would be one year since ive used Oxycontin or Heroin, and that is true, but i am still an addict and am controlled by other drugs now. its an every day battle. be extremely careful the mental addiction to adderall and simliar stimulants are very brutal and hard to beat. if you have any other questions about treatment or any thing else let me know-christos.
p.s- one thing you could possibly give a shot is provigil(modafinil), it is a waking agent and  mild stimulant, with a lot less abuse potential. it doesnt really ahve any euphoria which is mostly what hooks most ppl, but it does help you stay attentive and get task done. give that an earnest shot, avoiding a hard long road of addiction to adderall. best of luck

Yes.. that medication is extremely addictive. It is basically a leagal speed that doc's are handing out way to freely. I went to my regular doc and asked for it, she asked me a couple of questions and then just gave me the prescription. I was WAY too EASY! I became addicted and the ONLY reason I was able to stop is because I found out I was pregnant. Stopping the pain medication wasn't as easy because it's supposedly not bad for the baby. But the adderall has to be bad I'm sure. If you can stop now go ahead and stop. Otherwise please be careful. That stuff is toxic to your body.

Everybody gets more done and all of that when doing amphetamines.....I hope that makes sense.......My opnion is that if you dont feel you have a problem now ....it wont be too long before you realize it....Its just a crutch ...... and there is a good reason why the hippies in the 60's said that speed kills ..............take good care of your body until you get a grip ..... lot of vitamimns and plenty of nutrition .... drink a lot of decent fluids ....good luck to you also ............................
