Addict brother is going outpatient after a week.

He snorts coke, Addarall and Ritalin, the guy leaves paraphernalia all around his house and still denies usage. He is currently on methadone which is just a free drug to him at this point. Before drug use he was an extremely stable  family man. Once he go involved in the drug world, he assaulted a guy while high and claimed insanity. He still served time but he Really played it up saying he hears voices and has extreme paranoia. (only when he is high mind you.)

Well after serving time he has been prescribed psych meds and abuses them regularly. He once again got coked out, slashed his wifes tires and threatened to kill them in their sleep. He is currently on bail and is still on coke. So we tried admitting him (while high) to an inpatient drug rehab. He once again said he has delusions and paranoia and even admitted to coke use. He ended up in the psychiatric unit and after a week of eval. he is outpatient with a brand new scrip of psych meds even with his violent tendencies and pissing hot for coke.

Anybody know why they went outpatient when is clearly  abusing his medication, taking street drugs and threatening people's lives? Anybody know any inpatient rehab centers in the New England area that will not put him out on the street after a week?

I'm willing to actually drive him out of state to find him a suitable rehab center, whatever it takes. And thanks a lot for the recommendations, Going to look into them tomorrow.

Sorry about your story but congrats on having the initiative to actually admit yourself into rehab and staying clean, pretty inspiring in my current situation.  Your story is my biggest fear actually.  In his state of mind I am worried he is going to binge hard and OD. They know have him on 600 mg of Serequel along with his usual list of benzos. He is going to be flying high when he gets back, but I won't give up on trying to admit him, I'm all he has left as his whole family abandoned him at this point.

Hi...I know of a few rehab facilities where they won't buy into his Bull:

These are private and do a great job-

Westwood Lodge Hospital / Westwood,Ma.

Brattleboro Retreat / Brattleboro,Vt.

There's a hospital in Worcester,Ma. I think it's Worcester Memorial.

He's kind of cooking his own goose here. If he keeps up the violence and claims he's a psych patient, he'll end up being sent to a facility for the criminally insane. He won't like it!
I wish you luck. It's hard to get someone into rehab if they don't want it. This is a sad situation for your family.  Keep posting to us...

I don't know of any place in Maine.

It's so hard to help someone when they are still in denial and don't want help. What meds did they put him on now? I agree he should be in inpatient rehab and with his threats probably more. My drug of choice is cocaine also (clean now) and it's tough to kick, but there is help out there is he wants it. I will tell you though, I tried to go to inpatient rehab for cocaine and did the evaluation and everything, but because there are not many physical w/d's from coke I got put on the back of the bus over somone popping a few vicodin a day ( no offence meant by that). A few weeks later I overdosed and almost died. I am sorry you and your family are going through this, addiction is a family disease. How old is your bro?
