Addicted to Codiene & Weak

I have been on codiene for 3-4 years now but in the last 2 years have gotten up to 200-500 codienes a day. Like others on here I move around to different pharmacies as well when I buy bottles of them. They are bought over the counter here in canada. They have started at times to make me feel sick so now I am taking gravol as well and think I am getting addicted to them as well. When I can't get to codiene for a few days I feel like bugs are all over me and I feel so sick. I have osteoarthritis in my spine, I have chronic migraines that's what got me started on pain killers. I am sick though of feeling jumpy and irritable, theres got to be a way out of this addiction. I would love to hear from you.

I also have osteoarthritis in my hips and have been abusing T1's as well.  I finally had it and saw my doctor today.  I didnt tell him of my secret.  But he finally said he would give me cortazone shots.  Tomorrow I go for them.  Maybe that might be an outlet for you.  Ask your doctor if cortazone might work for you.

I hope the cortizone works...then I can see where I am at with the T1's.

People seem to be confused.....in Canada and other English colonial countries you can buy codeine OTC - - 8mg codeine and 300 acetaminophen - - almost like a tylenol #1.....to abuse the things is hard - in order to obtain the codeine in 1 tylenol #4 (60mg) you need to take 8 of the OTC things.........and people do take 100-200 pills per day to keep their buzz going..........You can probably imagine what that does to your liver- -

I use to take 9 tylenol 4's a day (which is 500-600 milligrams).  200 milligrams isnt bad, but 500 is another story.  I also got back on prescription medicine because of chronic headaches.  I still have to take them.  But I weaned myself gradually from 9 down to 2 per day.  It took a couple years, I did it slow.  But I made up my mind and stuck with it.  I also weaned from 6-8 fioricets to only 2.  I've been on that now for 4-5 years and consider myself recovered.  I no longer take the pills to get high only to control the migrane and tension headaches.  I also have bulging discs and a lot of back pain.  I take NO other drugs, no alcohol.  And by the way anything over 2000 milligrams of tylenol on a daily long term basis will damage your liver.  I kept weaning myself from my medication until I got below the level of tylenol that wasnt going to damage my liver (which is about 1200-1500 milligrams) per day!

200-300 mgs. or pills........I am a little confused?  If it's 2-300 pills your in serious trouble and that can kill you.  You can have organ failure from the acetaminophen. Please Stop Now, your running a serious health risk.

Luv,
Nauty.............

I don't know alot about codeine.  Do you have a neurologist?  I know mine doesn't like narcotics for migraines.  I would guess tapering would be the best route on this one if you can handle it.  I suffer chronic migraines too, which is what got me into the mess with pills as well.  Now I'm on Topamax as a preventative.  Works great, but it's expensive. Please repost this in the morning, or I'll try to bump it up, when there are more people online to get a taper plan if you are interested.  Have you tried quitting before?  I would stick to this forum, not the facebook or email route.  This place should be sufficient.  Don't post your real name in the future.  No need honey.  Good luck.
