Addicted to Hydrocodone

I am a full time student that became addicted to Hydrodocone 10/325 after a 3rd degree burn this year. It was very painfull and when it healed and the doctor said it was not longer necessary to take the pain killers, I suddenely realized I was addicted. I have been going behind my families back to obtain any hydrocodone at any cost and I am afraid it is going to derail my life and my future. I have to do this on my own and need advice on how to detox at home this week. I have already experienced extreme anxiety to the point that I wanted to beat my stomach. It was horrible. How long will this take. I couldn't take the anxiety so I reached for another pill. Please someone give me some advice. Anxieously waiting for a response. Thank you in advance.

Also, since no one has mentioned it yet, the Thomas Recipe will help ease some of the discomfort you'll have during your detox. There's a link on the bottom, right-hand side of the screen under Most Viewed Health Pages.

Afraid12, PLEASE READ----
I was once in a very similar situation to you and I remember thinking those same thoughts... and then I let my anxiety/unwillingness to quit/fear of withdrawal get the best of me and I let it turn into a horrible, 3yr habit. Please quit while you're ahead. Push through whatever withdrawals you're suffering now and never look back. It will only get worse.

I too was a full-time college student (and working) when I started using in small amounts, kind of like you are now, and after a couple months when I started realizing I perhaps had a problem, I thought, "Ehh whatever, this makes me feel good, this helps with stress.... I'll just quit when I'm ready, whenever that may be, and it'll work out." At that time I had an unlimited supply so obtaining extras outside my prescription wasn't a problem, but not for long. Soon you'll build up a tolerance and you'll need to get more and more. Picture feeling like you are now x1000 the night before a final exam three years down the road... sweaty, shaky, itchy, restless, diarrhea... all the while your friends are studying or partying or having a good time. Not you. You're looking for your next fix and you might not have the money or the source. Forget about that exam in the morning, you feel too horrible to study. You can't think about anything else.

Trust me, it's NOT worth it. Get out while you can. As I said, push through whatever withdrawals you have from however much you've been taking and never look back. Drink lots of fluids (gatorade always helped me). Exercise helps, whenever you're able. And try to distract yourself. You can do it. You have to, there's really no other choice, unless you want to seriously screw yourself up. It may not be anytime soon, but it's inevitable, and I learned that the hard way. Learn from our mistakes. Best of luck :)

I am reluctant to say this but you are likely in better luck than some.  Some of us were addicted for years before chasing of the "monster".  Don't get me wrong your withdrawals, I'm sure suck and the things you did to get them are going to hurt until you realize it wasn't you who did it.  The addiction takes up so much of your primative thinking that you WILL pursue them at any cost.  Start seeing the addiction as what it is.....an evil monster and please stop saying I did this or I did that.  Start telling yourself the addiction did this or the addiction did that.  I am in no way an expert but I can tell you I made great progress when I was able to look at addiction like it was a parasite and I was its host body.  It took over everything my mind thought about and everything my body did or didn't do......Good Luck and welcome to the forum.

All I can tell you is that I'm 5 days CT off of oxys 120mg per day and I am finally starting to see the light.  Everyone detoxes differently so it may be different for you, it really depends on how much you were using and for how long. It may not be so bad for you because I have been abusing hydrocodone for approx 7 years now.  Anyway hope this helps, I'm sure other members will be along soon to give you their advice.  Good luck wishing you the best.
