Addicted to fioricet

have been addicted to fioricet without codeine for close to 10 years, off and on.  Started at small doses, caught myself taking up to 23 a day.  I am now down to 16 a day and having a hard time tapering down anymore. When I went to rehab and detox they kept pushing the 90 day AA program on me and I fled after detoxing.  This happened 3 times.  I need mental help, not AA.  Medicare does not pay for detox, so I have to taper down myself.  What is the safest way?

Hi Debbie- I've written back and forth with you many times over the years and I'm sad to see you still struggling. You need to get some help because this cannot be done alone with willpower and a mindset. It's just too hard, as your posts illustrate.

AA is not a terrible idea. It's free and you get an amazing amount of support. You shouldn't be actively using when you go but I think if you're tapering it's acceptable.

You need to discuss this with a doctor who can suggest a taper plan and support any health issues that come up. You need to do the work Debbie. It won't just happen on its own. Also, eliminating the triggers that cause you to use is a must!

Hi Debbie. It sounds like you are just going to have to push thru with the taper. There is no way out of our addictions without some pain mentally our physically. Our brains when addicted are sick this is why aa and na are recommended 90 in 90 is a consent reinforcement of our commitment It helps to build support and adds to your momentum to see this thru so you can live a life you feel and remember.. You can do this just keep moving forward. They do have free mental heath is most towns You would be on a waiting list but it would be worth the effort to at least start the process of dealing with the issues that brought you to this point. You can do this! Life on this side is so much better then the no life we live addicted to these kinds of meds all they do is leave us down a slovenly path full of apathy regret and desire for something that seems out of our reach. This is the drugs taking of course as we have choices We need to be louder then the voice of our Addiction.. Take care and keep moving forward. lesa
