Advice on Suboxone/ What to expect

I have an appointment later this week with a suboxone doctor. I am taking 30 mg. methadone & I'm going to try suboxone to help me get off the methadone. I am scared to death. I've heard negative things about people switching from methadone to suboxone. Can anyone offer me any advice? Has anyone gone through this? What does the dr.
tell you? How many days do I need to be into withdrawals before starting suboxone?

According to many sources...including CDCT methadone has a half life of 24-26 hrs. Of course it depends on how long u have been on it and your metabolism.  Subs have a half life of 36 hrs. Just to be clear lol. Dude u can do this. It isn't the hardest thing ever. What is hard is staying clean but u will feel normal. If u normal is happy and productive that's great. If u normal is depressed then u will have to deal w that. But for the first time u CAN deal w it. Its a 2nd chance BUT u should not stay on longer than 90 days the shorter the better. I can't stress supplements like amino acid and Thomas recipe enough. Be good and good luck

Yes, there is that "honeymoon" period when you first start subs, You acually feel "normal" for the first time probably in years, where your mind is clear and you just feel fantastic. that will disappear after you taper and get to lower doses.  The withdrawl from the sub may not be bad at all if he's on a short taper plan.  That part depends how long a person is on subs. If  longer than a month, then yes, it will get more uncomfortable because the physical dependance may have set in.  But if you can get off it before that happens, most people don't have much difficulty at all.
The problem after that is staying clean. you MUST have that aftercare, and there is always the possibility of PAWS setting in, which could happen up to a year afterwards.  opiates are evil. They can come back to haunt you even after being clean for that long.

The half life of methadone is 36 hours.  A person on methadone should wait up to 72 hours before taking the sub. It depends how long it takes a person to get the methadone out of their system. Everyone metabolizes the stuff at different rates. Generally, they shold score at least 25 on the COWS sheet, which is simply indicators on how far along into withdrawal you are. The longer the better. Close to or in full withdrawal is best. So you will be somewhat "uncomfortable" before you take your first dose. But don't worry, it will go away quickly once you disolve your first dose under your tongue.

You shouldn't worry too much if you are going to a proper Doctor that will start you on a suboxone treatment properly. You can expect to spend the first visit at his office learnng about suboxone treatment, and them be asked to return to start treatment after you have stopped taking the methadone for up to 72 hours.

Or, the doc may just give you a prescription  with instructions on when to start taking it.  Make sure you understand those instructions clearly.

You should make sure you are told how long the suboxone treatment is going to be, and if it's for longer than a month or so, why. The shorter the time you are on suboxone, the better.

Wow! You have made my night! I've been so anxious & worried about
switching from Done to Suboxone. Can you remember what your dosage was? I can only afford 8mg a day ($255 for 30 - 8mg pills) so I'm hoping I don't have to take more than that. Did you have trouble sleeping while on suboxone? Thank you so much for the reply - I really appreciate it!

Oops accidently hit the post button...anyways make sure u have a plan, and a support system including a professional to talk to. I was sure I wouldn't get back on the Done but I did. Many people talk about pre. Withdrawal or putting urself into instant w/d from taking the suboxone too soon after ur last dose of opioids, especially methadone because of its long long half-life (typically 26 hrs or so) this wasn't my experience but I can't promise it wont be urs. Talk to ur doc about ur worries I promise he will have heard it all and has an answer. Most professionals say waait 3 days or until u reach a certain number on the COWS chart. Good luck u will be fine try to be on the sub for less than 2-3 months! Message me if u need more advice I have researched this for months and have been to many drs. Beat the methadone its evil!!

Hey so a few yrs ago I got off methadone with suboxone and it went great. It was 30 hrs or so after my last 35mg dose of methadone. Everything went fine and I was in good shape. Basically no w/d symptoms .....of course after a few months I got bored and started back on the Done and am still on the done now and am looming.
