Afrin junkies?

I was reminded today of how I used to be addicted to nasal spray. I know this sounds weird, but my whole immediate family has been addicted to nasal spray at one time. I am off the sauce now, but I used it for two straight years. I had nasal w/d for weeks coming off the stuff. In fact, my nose has never fully recovered.... Anyone else with this same problem?

Yep, the Afrin caused the most damage. When you get use to Afrin, your nose is open and breathing is a snap, but without it, you cant breath through your nose. Feels like someone inflated a balloon inside your head. Like a bad sinus pressure. The coke was only very very rarely. Maybe once or twice a year in small amounts. The oc's never gave me any problem's surprisingly enough. Wow, I sure am glad those scientists did something right. You can snort them like crazy with little to no signs of adjitation. Hooray for the magical docs who made drug abuse more tolerable, geezeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!

Sorry for the rant!

"You know coke, oc's, pot smoke, and of course afrin. They really ****** up my breathing. I blame the Afrin, that stuff is evil."

I'm not understanding.... you're blaming the afrin??

No, but my passage way still feels constricted. I actually had a real cold last week, and considered relapsing on Afrin just to get releif, but I held off.

It is weird, at night on the couch my nose is halfway conjested, but when I stand up and walk around it clears up. My nose was like a toilet for drugs. You know coke, oc's, pot smoke, and of course afrin. They really ****** up my breathing. I blame the Afrin, that stuff is evil.

I used to suffer from horrible allergies.  During my freshman year in college whilst studying for finals I used afrin A LOT.
I was out to dinner with my mother and sniffing afrin and was unable to sit still and was just generally jittery.  My mother called me on it.  It turned out I was using afrin way too much. I don;t remember if I had any nasal withdrawals.
I do know that years later I graduated to cocaine  Lokking back, I wish afrin was the extent of my usage.

actually it has been studied. afrin is physically addictive if taken for extended lengths of time so be careful. as you said sometimes the sinuses have a hard time returning to normal function with long term use of these substances. sounds so weird but it is true.

If your nose is still plugging up, it works wonders to clear it out. It will never hurt to do this. Do you get sinus infections very often?

Its been two or three years since my last spray. Do you think it would help now?

Yes. It has been a while but it is awful. I think it's called nasal rebound. Try 1 cup warm water with 1/4tsp un-iodized salt. Use this to rinse out your nasal passages. I like the little bulb syringes used for infants.
