After detox?

68 yrs old. 14 yrs on opiates and Xanax for "fibromyalgia". Found something that works. Was taking 240mil Oxycotin, 2 Percocets every 4 hours for breakthrough, and 1.5 mil Xanax for bedtime. Got off the Oxyconin 4 yrs ago with new natural alternative. Still on same amount of Percocet and Xanax. Finally, went through detox at clinic. 1st three days home, sick as a dog from meds given at clinic. Now in fourth day and having anxiety, sleeplessness, mild palpitations, and mild sweating. Anyone know how long someone my age can expect to experience these symptoms? Comfort suggestions appreciated.

Congratulations, sunlooker....hang in there!   I am near your age...I will be 66 soon, and I quit hydrocodone about 7 weeks ago, and doing great.   I know you were taking a lot more kinds of pills than I was, but just wanted to offer my support.

keep up the good work, and yes, that anxiety DOES END. I can't post it enough.

When I read that you said, about the anxiety, that you were going to doctor and he was "going to fix it" my heart sunk. I guess you know by now there is no "fix."
We have to do the time, but we can make it easier by staying hydrated, staying on vitamins and keeping up the body with nutrition, Ensure when you cant eat, and moderate exercize. There were days, and still are when I don't feel like doing anything, and I just push myself. Even if just some household exercize, liek chores, it gets you moving.
Keep up the great work. You will get milestones that will keep you going, and befor elong you will be feeling great like me here at 37days.

hugs,
Lily

Kaydee, I re- read your comment after brief naps and no anxiety going on. I wanted to also thank you for the prayers and I will certainly be praying for you and all fellow sufferers having this horrible experience. (It's not like I don't have alot more time for that now that I am sleepless, as I am once again posting in the middle of the night.) Hope this last symptom doesn't last long. Pain-free and drug-free after 14 yrs. YAY! Sunlooker

Hi Selfinduced, Thanks for the encouraging words and the recommendations. I really appreciate it. I doubled up on myself doing detox for both the Percocet and Xanax. Apparently,I am doing well by all accounts. Today (yesterday now) I only had two bad anxiety attracts. I seem to be taking a few one and two hour naps in 24 hr.rather than the seven, eight hr sleep through, which is driving me CRAZY.I guess my biggest problem is that I thought I was going to be well walking out of the clinic. BIG SURPRISE when I got Dr.'s release and final instructions as to what to expect. I really didn't think I would have to go through all this since I went without needing sub or meth. This is a first for me so I picked up a whole new language and appreciation and compassion for other sufferers. Will try to get the strength to follow what you suggested. Thanks again. Sunlooker

You sound like your doing AMAZING! You are a strong person and so commend you for getting your life back. Just a word about the anxiety, I had it for about 3 weeks. I compounded it by taking Ambien and NOT as it was prescribed. Be careful of the benzo's and sleep aids. Hot baths, sleepy time tea, moderate exercise in the day hours really helped. Your post is an inspiration.....keep those days going.

Kaydee, thanks for responding. Read my other responses. You can be helped w/o meds. I have been going to Dr. Robson for two years now and I have seen "miracles" with myself and many other of his patients although he won't admit it. He just says he is allowing the body to heal itself. AND IT WORKS! Sunlooker

Lily, I wish I had read your words when posted. Yes, day four was bad but Tylenol and Mylanta did the trick. Day five I did have a couple of anxiety attracts, didn't know quite what they were at the time, just felt nervous and panicked. Dr. Robson is taking me first thing this am to fix it. Thanks for the heads up on the part where it DOES END. I needed to hear that. I thought I had gone from the frying pan to the fire. Sunlooker

Google Dr. Farrand Robson, or, Oral Systemic Balance Therapy. It works! Went clinic detox w/o sub or meth never displaying symptoms. I am med sensitive should have been sicker than I was. Only issue I am dealing with now is sleeplessness and am going in again today for "tweaking". After that I should be good to go. Pain-free and drug- free after 14 yrs. Deo Gratias! Sunlooker.

Thanks for the encouraging words but the worst is already over. I was able to detox in the clinic w/o sub or meth and it was driving the nurses and Dr.'s crazy because I never developed ANY symptoms requiring either. A little Tylenol, Mylanta, got me through yesterday. Now I am just dealing with sleeplessness. I arranged to see Dr. Robson the day after I got home and will be seeing him again today to deal with it. Pain-free and drug-free after 14 years! Deo Gratias! Sunlooker.

Hi Beyond, Who ever thought the word " google" would be part of the Engilsh language. Google, either "Dr. Farrand Robson" or "Oral Systemic Balance Therapy".  You will find rave reviews and comments. Even the MD 's are starting to take notice. A team of MD's is coming from Boston to investigate. He and his work are snowballing.  Dentists from all over the world are coming to be trained by him. I was completely non-functioning going from bed to couch to bed again. Now that I am finally "clean" and literally pain-free I will be visiting my CA grandchildren next month. Deo Gratius! Sunlooker.

Palpitations, talk to your doc. You're on day 4, and what you've described is normal. Any high blood pressure? Something else to talk to the doc about.
From this point on it will get better; try to eat, drink Ensure if you can't. You will feel much better if you keep yourself fueled.

I'm confused. Sorry guys but shouldn't the detox clinic help all that? What day did you actually stop the meds? You have been home for 4 days from the clinic right?

Hi there , I am on day 14 and I quit perocet, I was taking 6 a day for my fibromyalgia and I went down to 1 and a half for a week then stopped taking them all together, I didn't do the thomas recipe and I did not get immodian , i figured lets get this all out of my system as soon as possible, I tried Formula303 or something like that from the chiropractor, used it for two days and did not like the way it made me feel so i stopped that too, I tried to walk everyday unless it was too hot out, then I would be here the rest of the day researching the withdrawals. My anxiety was through the roof but day 13 it eased a lot, I thought i was going to die or something was wrong with my lungs, I also want to state that since I was about 13 I started taking something for pain, started with codiene and fiocert for migraines and then tylenol 3's and then perocet, there were other drugs i took too for migraines  and leg pain, i stopped most of the pills 3 months before along with smoking, and pepsi, for the longest while nothing tastes right, i kept thinking why did i bother to quit when i feel so bad. I am in a lot of pain , i had two knee surgeries which doesn't help the chronic pain and i have burning sensations in my hamstrings, before i gave up all this stuff i had gained 20 lbs, sat on the couch and did not care, i am old before my time and i just turned 50. The pain pills masked  the withdrawals of all the pills i gave up, i swear i did not get withdrawals until i gave up the percocet, I still try to drink a coffee but it tastes burnt, I love my coffee and it is annoying i can't drink any. I haven't stocked up on on vitamins, I drank apple juice , drank boost or ensure and ginger-ale and prayed and still praying for a better outcome. I hope this helps you out a little, one day at a time.

the 1.5 mg xanax at bedtime is ok,  I mean, I am not a professional, but i don't think it is anything to worry about, but you can probably cut that, I was prescribed 1 mg but 1/8 of that does the trick for me, now take 1/2 of a .25 mg xanax and its fine, but anyway, the narcotics.... don't worry about your age, you can do this, you will be ok. You are on day 4, so the worst of the physical will be over soon. Day 4 is a peak day, so from here on out should get better.
You will still have the mental par to get over, and that is worse, but hang in there, in short time periods you get milestones. the anxiety is a real monster, so just fight it with all your might, it DOES END, and i can't stress that enough, it ENDS.
hang in there, stay hydrated, drink ensure when you can't eat, take vitamins and vitamin C too.
keep posting and we will get your through this, day 34 for me and I am free now, and i feel great.
hugs,
Lily

First, you need to call your dr about w/ds from xanax. I hear that can get pretty serious. For the percs, w/ds usually last at least 3-4 days before it starts getting better. You can expect flu-like symptoms. A very bad flu.

The thomas recipe helps a lot. It eases the symptoms and makes them more bearable.

Also, ask your dr for help if he has helped you before. Just dont take any suboxone or methadone if you can help it.

Once you get through the first few days, it gets a lil better each day.

Keep your head up. Be strong. You can do it. We are all in the same boat.
