Alcohol addiction information

My boyfriend is a binge drinker.  He will drink a 26 oz bottle of vodka in a 24 hr period.  Last week he admitted to me that he is an alcoholic.  He is working in another province and after his last binge, became so violently ill that he said he is coming home..where he can be watched, he can't do this anymore and he needs help.  That was six days ago.  He hasn't left yet because he can't stop throwing up.  I am so worried about him.  Does anyone know any reason why he can't hold down even water.  He is so dehydrated..saying he is so thirsty and craves popsicles and ice cream.  Nothing with stay down at all.  He has promised me that he will go to the hospital tomorrow if he is still feeling like this.

Any info is appreciated.  The more you know, the less chance of something really bad happening..he is in the hospital today tho.  He has been there since this morning.  I just hope he didn't leave things too long...but he is in good hands now.
I can't thank everyone enough.

alcohol W/D  is a medical emergancy he should not wait until tomorrow send him to the ER tonight + dehydration turns into hypovolemic shock if gone to long.
A person in alcohol W/D may experience frighting Hallucinations and DT (delirium Tremens) a syndrome characterized by restlessness, fever, sweating, disorientation, agitation, convulsions, and death seizures.  severe acute alcohol ingustion can cause Hypoglycemia (low blood suger)

I am so happy I found this site, and thank you two sooo much for your advice..I called my boyfiriend after hearing from both of you and altho I had asked him to go to the hospital, it was telling him about this site and your advice to convince him to go.  He was put on IV and they have done a battery of tests and will be doing more over the next two days..he has been given a drug (forget the name of it) to make his heart beat slow down and stop the shaking.  He has a problem in the pancreas and to compound the problem, blood work showed food poisoning on top of everything else.  He also was given a second drug to stop DT's.
I can't thank you enough.  He was very badly dehydrated.  He swears he will not drink anymore and when he is released, he will be coming home so that he can be closely monitored, at his insistence and his suggestion..even giving up the high paying job he went out there for.

Thanks worried878. Yeah I thought it sounded serious. Get him to go to a Dr. At this point IV fluids will re-hydrate him. Don't put this off.

6 days without any fluid intake is a long time.....he could be getting worse and worse due to dehydration....he needs to call a doc and get some fluids in him/IV fluids...he needs to call a doc or go to the ER...detoxing from alcohol can be a wicked process to do without help...alcoholic patients come in for a procedure at my hosptial and a couple of days later things get bad.....he needs help....tell him to call or go to the er...keep posting

No he is in a home of a woman who rents out rooms to guys working on the oil rigs.  I don't have her number.  It doesn't sound right to me either.  Do you have any idea what might be causing this?  Would it just be a symptom of withdrawl?  He has had 2-3 days of vomiting in the past but this just won't stop.  I am new here, but so happy I found understanding people who can help me understand this.
