Bloated face and body

I have a relative that is an alcholic, she refuses to go to rehab has been there before for pill addition
and has said she would rather die than to go back again.  Now she is abusing alcohol and is extremly bloated especially in the face.  My question is what is the cause of that and has she
already done damage to her liver, kidneys ect.?

hi... a buddy of mine went through rehab 5+ years ago - she was abusing alcohol for quite some time.,  as far as i know, she did not do any organ damage, but boy she looked like a bloated cow...  once she got sober (then put down the donuts, because she replaced one addiction with another for awhile...) she now is the picture of health.

so i think the answer is, i don't know if anyone can tell you that for sure... i'm sorry.  but it obviously is possible...

Bloating in the face and body can be a sign of kidney failure. I know this because I donated a kidney to my sister and the bloating and water retention throughout the body was a definite symptom. She really needs to be seen by a dr as soon as possible as the bloating may be caused by many underlying condirtions. Good luck. God Bless!!!

I had hepatitis C and have cirrhosis of the liver.  I did not get a bloated face until I took a bunch of steroids.  I am no doctor but the only way to know the extent of Liver damage is for her to get a liver biopsy.  If she would rather die than to go get help again then that may be exactly what happens.  Sorry to sound so hardcore but if she does not want help you can't do anything about it, ask any addict on this forum.  Sounds like she needs to go see a doctor as the reason for a bloated face could be the symptom(s) of many different conditions.  Maybe a Dr online will answer your question(s).  Good luck to you and her
