Sounds like you're doing a great job so far. It's a long bumpy road, but you're getting there. Curious: is a dr. supervising you on the taper? I hope so, as withdrawal from xanax, if stopped too fast or CT can result in lots of bad side effects, including seizures/death, like someone already mentioned. But I experienced this first hand. I went CT off subs and xanax, and was throwing up and didn't sleep for about a week. I was delerious, dehydrated and malnourished. All that seemed like it was so far fetched, as the addicted brain thinks 'it'll never happen to me'. Well I stayed off, and still couldn't hold anything down, not even water. I had zero strength. I went grocery shopping with my husband and mother in law and my son. My MIL and hubby went ahead, as I was walking so slow. My 3 yr old son was in the cart I was pushing. For few days prior, my sense of smell and taste deteriorated. We got to the store and I was so confused and delerious that I hardly remember anything. (II thought I originally had a stomach flu, and threw up and couldn't intake anything for over a week - those were the withdrawals from xanax). Because of going through CT withdrawal, my body was shutting down. I went down the cereal aisle (so Im now told) and collapsed into a grand mal seizure. I only remember 2-3 second intervals at mixed up times of the next WEEK. My potassium was so low from being so dehydrated for so long that I had a seizure. My son apparently was pulled down when I had the seizure. I was in the ER overnight, while they did every test possible, including a spinal tap since I had a fever too. (that was my longest memory)..After the ER for 24 hrs, I was put into a room, and apparently I disturbed the woman next to me that I got a private room. I was in and out of conciousness and eventually ended up in a psych ward since they needed someone to supervise me 24 hrs/day. I dont remember anything but 2 second flashes up until 2 days before I was released. Crazy crazy things went through my head. I thought I was dying. My mom said she came to see me one day (out of 10 days there, nice) and she said I cried for a second then my eyes were open and Id just stare into space. When I 'woke up' - it was a very slow process - I didn't know anything other than what people tell me now. It changed my life, but almost ended it.
So...the point is that yes, sudden stopping of just about any substance will cause side effects, some worse than others. I hope this puts a little perspective into your situation. I know it doesn't take away the way you're feeling now, you're on the right path and have a ways to go, but try and appreciate the little things...being in your own bed at night, even if you can't sleep, being able to see out a window and get fresh air when you want, even if it's icky out.
If you haven't already, please see a doc and have them supervise all you are tapering from..even if it's a slow taper, you're coming off three things! Great for you, and cngrats on that, just be careful and remember it could always be worse Every feeling you were/are suppressing with chemicals is coming to the surface now, making everything seem 100% more scary/sad/desperate than when you were on all that. I commend you for taking command of your life, but please do so with caution and medical advice. Best of luck Hope it helps.
Nikki are u serious with that crap?
For me, personally, the withdrawal off of Xanax was much harder than Norco. Xanax was my DOC, it's hard, but can be done. Keep your head up!
I battles with Xanax addiction for many years. If you get off of it cold turkey, it can be VERY dangerous. IT can cause seizures and even death. You must talk with your doctor and get on a plan to taper off. No opiate or benzo is good to take while drinking alcohol , again it can be dangerous. The physical withdrawal from Xanax can last between 7 days to 6 months or even longer. The lat time got off of Xanax, I was taking 2mg 3 times a day, sometimes more, I was still feeling withdrawals 6 months later. You are in the right place. Talk to your doctor, be 100% honest if you really want to do this and I'm sure your doc will get you on the road to taper down and eventually stop altogether. Best of Luck.

Stu, abruptly stopping alcohol after drinking so much for so long is very dangerous. Consulting a doc is a good idea. Xanax withdrawal is terrible as with any benzodiazepine. You can have seizures if abruptly stopping after taking for so long. Physical withdrawals off opioids takes approx 7 days. You have been mixing these drugs together which is very, very, very dangerous. I cannot emphasize enough to consult a doctor for help. I know it is hard, but I found when I reached out for help people were much more understanding and empathetic than I thought. I dont mean to scare you, but with this combination of drugs there is a strong possibility you may wake up dead one day. Please seek help. Good Luck :)
You can do this and great job at wanting to change. Somebody who knows more about xanax will help you soon Im sure.
I hope nobody answers that.
i have a friend who wants to know how many norco 10-325 and xanax it would take to commit suicide for her 150lb self
You're having withdrawals from all of the above. I'm not very knowledgeable about Xanax, but I do know that stopping drinking cold turkey can be quite dangerous. I highly recommend calling your dr & explaining to them what's going on. Only a dr can give u the best advice to help you get off the meds/alcohol! Ps...that's pretty awesome that you're making a change for the better! Stay strong, but stay safe...please contact a dr.
