Can they take baby away???

Ive been reading some posts on here about women taking pain meds during pregnancy and people saying "If your baby is born addicted they will take it away!". Really??? If the meds are prescribed and you are taking them as directed why would CPS even step in? Are you a bad mother because you are in pain and your doc prescribed you pills you thought were safe?

Hi great I want you to take care of my baby. I also work in a NICU and see these baby's all the time as well. I also work on a general peds floor and see these babies come in years later with learning disabilities. Beleive me the crying is the least of your worries. I would do all that you could do to take as little as possable and to try and get off the meds all together.

I worked for many years in a newborn intensive care unit.  I've seen almost every kind of addicted baby there is. I have to say that the babies born to methadone moms were in the worst trouble.  None of them died   We took good care of those babies and they got better.  If your baby has a problem, it will get better.  One tip I can give is to breast feed.  That way the baby gets a small dose of whatever it is you're taking.  It relieves the baby, comforts you and as you wean the baby slowly the baby will slowly wean off the drug.  The one thing you might get is some "down their nose" looks from the nursing staff.  Just F--- 'em! They won't take your baby away unless maybe you're living under a bridge or something.  Find a doc you can trust to look out for you.  Keep your chin up...PS. I'm also a Vicodin addict trying to stop.  Addicts come in all shapes and sizes.  It'll be ok

My sister in law was in a horrible accident about 10 years  ago she metal rods in her leg. and hips. I cant even imagine how painful that is.  But over the years  she began taking alot of methadone she had a doctor prescribe 330 pills a month of methadone she would finish the bottle in two weeks. Well shes pregnant now she no longer has the same doctor and she replaced her pill addiction for meth but when she found  out she was pregnant she went back to pillss full throttle.  Worried about her and her baby I dont know what to do.

Yes I will be nursing! I also have a TENS Unit but it never really worked for me for some reason! I don't really like it either!!! I do have a massage chair that is awesome but this late in the pregnancy it is hard to use since I'm so huge!
Anyways, my OB doesn't seem to think my baby will have any problems at all! But it could happen! He said he delivered a 10 pound baby a month ago who was dependent on percocet! He said the mom had taken a lot of it and that baby had to stay in the NICU for 5 days! But there's other women who have had to take it and their babies were fine so I dont know! Every pregnancy is different!

CONGRATS MOMMA!!! I am VERYproud that you've been diligent and worked hard to get the meds down! I will be praying that you android baby will be fine and you will all be home and well soon.

I'm a proud mom to7 yr old triplets and need pain meds when my condition gets really bad! I was on a few percocet for about half of my pregnancy with them. They were all born fine, no with drawl at all. I would expect your baby to require a little medication after birth but I am sure the baby is going to do amazingly well. My babies are 7 now and are smart as whips!!

Will you be nursing your baby??

Try not to even think about it.  Just put it into your mind that all will go well, and it will.  We have enough to worry about.  This is  one of the biggest and most wonderful blessings you will have in your life ... focus on the joy of that!

When my children were very young, I had very high triglyceride levels ... probably genetic and I did always have quite the sweet tooth.  Years later when I was gathering my medical records, I read a note in my file:  mother of three small children - probably heavy drinker, watch for signs!    HAha, I never drank ... not a drop!  Don't let the opinions or judgements of others get you down.  You know your situation and you do not have to make excuses for them or justify them.  Look forward to that beautiful baby!
Warmest,
Gigi

Yeah it turns out I was worried for nothing! I talked to my OB about my fears and he told me not to worry about that at all! I guess if my baby was born addicted they could call CPS but all they would have to do is look into my personal things and see I was prescribed the meds! And in NO WAY am I abusing them! I'm alloud to take 1 every 4 hours and I only take a 1/2! Also, my primary wrote me a note (just in case) that says I've been under her care for years and that I am taking pain meds under her care! I gave a copy to my OB so it's in my file and I have a copy for the hospital (just on case) but at this point I highly doubt I will need it! I have a feeling everything will be fine!

Great news!  What could possibly be worse than worrying about your newborn being taken away!  In the county I live in Texas, I would not be surprised at all.  Take the baby right before the lynching ...

We have Once Upon a Child around here and that store is really nice.  It's nice to buy some new things.  I know JCPenneys usually has good sales on like onesies and such and those you will go thru as it seems more comes out the diaper than stays in!!!
