Christmas Eve Kidney Infection

Six hours of joy in the ER. Doctor sent me there thought I had something that may burst. Blood work, ultrasound, etc. Nurse must have asked me 5 times my pain level. Told her I was about a 5 when really it was more. Anyway antibiotics & an automatic prescription for Vicodin. I handed back the presc & told them Tylenol should do it. I thought it was interesting because I told my own doc that I am done with the MS Contin so that was noted on the orders he sent with me. I'm proud of myself, may not be in a few hours, but for now it's all good. *smiles*

Kudos!  Way to be strong and honest!!

As you probably know, you can't drink TOO much pure, clean water when you have a kidney infection.  Since you are on antibiotics AND have an infection...be sure to push the Vit C.  Here's a tidbit for ya I found:

"Take a daily dose of vitamin C to help cure kidney infections and prevent future infections. The vitamin will raise the acidity level of your urine, making it harder for bacteria to thrive in the kidneys and urinary tract."

Antibiotics also pull Vit C from our bodies...so you can't go wrong taking plenty of C.  I was told that all the sugar in Cranberry Juice isn't good for an infection...and I can't stand the taste of just pure juice...so I have used a great supplement by Nature's Way that is a standardized cranberry capsule.  It works great, too!

The more you drink, the more you flush, the faster you'll feel better!

Get well...and good on ya for resisting the demon pills~

Oh my quiet sunshine that was the best! Tremendous strength shown! Like you said it's so not worth throwing it all down the chimney for 24 lousy stinkin Vicodin! Great job! Feel better and Merry Christmas you animal! LOL

Wow thanks so much for responding. I'm doing ok. It's weird how in my head I felt I needed that MS Contin but I guess I really didn't. Don't get me wrong a kidney infection is no 'walk in the park' but I'll just try & ride the wave with Tylenol. Things in life could be so much worse. I did get cranberry juice on the way home which was worse than the ER. My word stay away from the grocery store!

I was going to tell you the same thing that Ang-811 did. Lots of Cranberry Juice..Even get real cranberry's and Juice or Blend them and drink or munch on them..You did show so much strength at the ER. You should Pat your self on the back..It looks like you mean business here. I sure pray you do not have too much pain. I am proud of YOU!! Ya!!! BUT do not suffer either..If you have to have them for a few days then have them handed to you..BUT just "one" could send the tape in the brain to play it again Sam. Just be Safe.

Hey sunshine! I'm so sorry you are feeling bad. It took guts and a very strong conviction to refuse the Vicodin! You should be proud! Now, take care of yourself, and try to get some rest. I hope you will be able to enjoy Christmas! Take care, and feel better soon!

Im sorry you are in such pain and I hope it lessens for you very soon . Hang in there , merry xmas huh ?    You are doing great but don't let yourself get in such pain as it makes you not be able to think .
