Clonidine

HI... I am new to this site and am on my third day of weaning off of vicodin, hycodan...the works. :) i am doing pretty well so far...except for the guilt to the people i have effected and the fiance i will be affecting as he goes through this with me.  My first question is has the weaning off of drugs been effective for people? i am nervous as i have tried ct at least 7 times.  second, my doctor prescribed two clonidine patches for me for any withdrawl symptoms.  What do these do ? my doc said it woud basically knock me out...love that of course... but, i am hesitant because i had never heard of it... i know it is a little strange for a prescription lover to be afraid of a new drug...weird.  but, i would like to hear about some experiences with people who have tried it before.  Thank you so much.

Welcome to the forum. Clonodine is a med to reduce blood pressure. It's also used to help wd symptoms...i never used it..but I think you dr.needs to moniter your blood pressure(BP).
Did he take your BP and does your pressure run normal?

Yes, tapering off the pills is effective. I tapered off vics and have 44 days clean.
How much do you take?
Did the dr. set up a taper plan for you?
YOU can do this!!!  You'll get alot of help and support here.
Good Luck!!!

Clonidine stimulates central alpha-adrenergic receptors which result in a decrese in your sympathetic nervous system. This will help to keep your heart rate down, anxiety reduced and will almost eliminate the cold sweats. I have used it befor and am currently taking it as we speak. I take 0.1mg every eight hours. For acute W/D you can take 0.2mg every eight hours. but not for more that 10 days. you should taper off the last 2 days. i know you have the patch but it is the same drug. Good Luck OlyAddict

I have never used it personally, but what I have read about it, and I have read a lot .....is that It either works well or it doesn't.  I have heard that it does make you sleepy and some people didn't like that, but that it does take away a lot of the symptoms.....I have also heard from others that it didn't help at all.  All you can do it try it, and hope that it works.  it is a blood pressure med.  used primarily for opiate withdrawal now.

Good luck.....I hope it works for you.

Luv,
nauty.............
